Extra Palettes

Windows or Mac OS 9 or earlier

If you would like to add these palettes to your copy of Mathematica 3 or later, they should be copied to the Palettes subfolder of the FrontEnd folder of the SystemFiles folder inside your Mathematica Files folder. (This is where the palettes provided by Wolfram Research are placed when you install Mathematica.)

OS X

In OSX, you can place the files in the following folder to make them available to all users on the system:
/Library/Mathematica/SystemFiles/FrontEnd/Palettes

If you do not have sufficient privileges to update this general location, you can place the palettes in your own library directory, and the palettes will be available to you (only) when you run Mathematica:
/Users/(your username)/Library/Mathematica/SystemFiles/FrontEnd/Palettes

All

You may wish to check back here occasionally to get the most recent versions and additions.

If you download any of the following, and have trouble opening them on a computer equipped with Mathematica 3 or later because the icon for the file is wrong or blank, here are some instructions on how to possibly fix the problem.

Mac users may find that clicking on a file link opens it in your browser as a text file starting with "Mathematica-Compatible Notebook." If this happens, try again, but hold down the option key as you click the link. This can conceivably happen with Windows browsers as well. If so, try again, but right-click on the file and choose Save ___ As (where ___ is something like "Target" or "Link") in order to save the file in notebook format.

Here are the extra palettes currently available.

Plotting.nb (last updated September 10, 1999 )

The DifferentialEquations palette is designed to work with the add-on package VisualDSolve. If this package is not in your Mathematica 3 or 4 Files AddOns…ExtraPackages subfolder, then the palette will not do much for you, and you need not install it. The VisualDSolve package, together with an accompanying book, is currently a bit difficult to find, but used copies seem to be available online.
