Snippets of Santa Maria Valley History
The Santa Maria Valley Historical Society has sponsored a book based on some of Shirley's columns. For the first time, a collection of her historical vignettes is being made available to the public in book form. This book reverbrates with well-known Santa Maria Valley names, and celebrates the contibutions made to local culture by the early settlers who came to the valley from various parts of the world. The book is a fascinating look at the people and events that transformed a lonely but fertile valley into the beautiful Santa Maria Valley that we know today.

There are many articles and pictures of some of the great barbecues of the Santa Maria Valley and the many fine restaurants and organizations in the area that serve barbecued beef in the Santa Maria Style. The term "Santa Maria Style Barbeque" is copyrighted by the Santa Maria Chamber of commerce.
