Music has
been a love of mine for as long as I can remember. Making it my career only seemed the right thing to do. My professional
career started at the age of 16 when I began playing with our church pianist in a jazz group around Parkersburg, WV. We played
alot of "ECM" tunes(Pat Metheny, Carla Bley, John Abercrombie, etc.) which really opened up my ears to a whole new world of
tonal colors. I basically grew up as a kid listening to my mother's collection of "Boston Pops", "Andy Williams", "The Carpenters",
and the rest of the "MOR Family". My friends and I soon got into the R&B Jazz and Pop scene i.e "Earth, Wind, and Fire",
"The Crusaders", "Ohio Players", "James Brown", and the pinnacle, "Tower of Power". My first year in college at West Virginia
University was spent listening to the aformentioned and the heavy addition of Miles, Coltrane,"Weather Report", Parker, Herbie
Hancock, Rollins, etc. I played in a fusion jazz group around town. It was also the apex of my partying and drug use(Hey,
it was the seventies, what did you expect?). My motto was "I'll try anything once and , if it doesn't kill me, I'll try it
again."
By the end of that year, I realized that my personal life was an exercise in futility and decided the "Do
the Right Thing": I "Got Saved!" Actually, I "came to my senses" and came back to the truth and gave Jesus Christ the Lordship
of my life. Some of you might say that I became religious, but, that is not accurate. I "got religion" later and eventually
had to get saved from that also. The truth is religion binds you. Christ will free you to live to your fullest potential as
God originally designed the human being to be. But, enough preaching, lets get on with this.
I went to Oral Roberts
University to finish my undergrad work. I was involved in two series of live TV productions that the Oral Roberts ministry
did while I was a student there. I also played in the Tulsa Philharmonic and worked around town in various musical settings
from rock to tea dances. I was a regular session man at Castle Studios in Tulsa. All in all, I got a lot of good experience
while in college.
In 1986, my first wife, Annette(she passed away in 1992), and I moved to the LA area where
she had grown up. I worked at Charles Music Store in Glendale where I met a number of great musicians. I started working around
town on casuals and in the studios. I have done feature solo work for multitudes of artists as well as my own featured artist
projects for international companies. I have been involved in one movie to date, "Man on the Moon" starring Jim Carrey, as
a performer and an actor. A friend and I started the Jazz Gospel group, "Anotherway to Praise". We have been established since
1988 and are currently working on a Smooth Jazz project. Stay in touch through this website for the latest on this ground
breaking, earth shattering CD. You will want to have this in your collection. "I guarantee it."
In 1995, I married
a wonderful Woman of God, Barbara. She has been a great motivator and example of an overcoming life. From 1998-2003,
I directed the bands at Faith Community Church in West Covina. From 1999-2006, I taught a jazz class at Maranatha
High School in Pasadena, and coached their golf team. From 2000-2008, I regularly worked as a performer and writer
for Charlie Brissette of Music by the Metric Ton Productions on syndicated cartoons("Ren and Stimpy", "Angry Beavers", "The
Adventures of Jimmy Neutron", and "Sitting Ducks") and children's projects for Disney and Sesame Street. Since
2004, my wife and I helped start an affiliate church in Brea, CA - "The Cause Community Church". In December
of 2006, the church came out with a CD of original praise and worship music entitled "Creations". It was recorded be
me in my studio, "Doghouse Studios". Our youth band, "The Movement Band" has since come out with two CD projects
from the same studio.
Since the
Fall of 2008, I have been working on a Masters Degree in Music Performance at Azusa Pacific University. I am looking forward to what God has purposed for the future.
We live in a real world with real problems but I pray that you, the reader will come to the real knowledge of the truth of
God's Love for us through Jesus Christ, The Lord. Amen.
