We invite you to check out these recent bulletins . . .
Lineage Research Assistance Available
DAR chapters assist prospective members with research on their ancestors and preparation of application
forms. The NSDAR Library has a vast amount of genealogical information that may help with ancestry research and documentation.
We are happy to help individuals find their Patriot ancestors.
Children of the American Revolution (CAR)
The Virginia CAR is one of the most active societies in the nation. Members participate in parades,
work with naturalization ceremonies, hold flag retirement ceremonies and give programs. For more information, contact
your local chapter of CAR, DAR or go online to http://www.nscar.org/
The Red Cross has a long and
important relationship with the DAR - Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, was a charter member of the DAR, and
the two organizations had headquarters next door to each on Constitution Avenue for years. Clara turned to the DAR for help
during the Spanish-American War, and the DAR pitched in again during World Wars I and II. A recent Red Cross CEO is a member
of a DAR chapter in northern Virginia. So, I am keeping up a proud tradition in turning to you for help, once again.
Our need is this: In a major
local disaster Red Cross Disaster Teams will alert their members (both volunteers and staff) to report to headquarters in
Richmond and register in. They then will be assigned to a work station. Paperwork needs to follow the individuals throughout
the process.
What you would do: First, become a Red Cross volunteer yourself by completing
an application and taking a morning orientation class here at the chapter. Then, get a little overview on the registration
process. Next, sit back and wait until a major disaster strikes. At that point, first you would make sure that you and your
family are safe and secure. Then, wait to be called by the Team leader who will ask for your availability over the coming
week in order to create a work schedule - we would prefer to have people on duty for no more than four hours a day in an eight-hour
day. If you can help, or would like to know
more about the process, please let me know.

Program Director - American Red Cross, Greater Richmond Chapter
"Let’s Talk Pins"
Have you wondered what the significance of various pins may be, what the DAR pin represents, or what determines the order
in which they should be worn? In addition to being lovely ornaments, each has a story all its own and will share
its secrets with those "in the know."
Now you can check out FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) about the insignia that DAR members wear to honor their ancestors,
state, chapter, or projects and offices held. Go to
