And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren
Eight years old playing with my little brother;

that they stripped Joseph of his coat
in front of the house. I almost killed him.

the coat of many colors that was on him;
Not intentionally fratricidal, you understand.

and they took him and cast him into the pit--
A deep pit was being dug

and the pit was empty
The workmen were out of it having sandwiches

there was no water in it.
their picks and shovels lay in the bottom.

and they sat down to eat bread.
I played a trick, exactly how-- does it matter?--

and they took Joseph's coat, and killed a he-goat
and my brother fell into the pit.

and dipped the coat in the blood
The bottom was muddy; he didn't impale himself on a pick.

and they brought it to their father
No damage done. They brought him to my mother.

and said: This have we found.
I said nothing. I only tell you this now.
