Sunlight in SeattleIn the park out by the Space Needle
there's a museum.
It had been raining for weeks
as it does in Seattle,
and on that day, a fine, chilly drizzle
and the climate not being sufficiently aqueous
a fountain gurgles upward, drips down around
the rim of its basin
where seagulls wade.A woman walks with a small boy;
they are seen from behind.
They wear raincoats.Suddenly, sunlight.
A hole in the clouds. The sun
shines through.
Look! says the woman, pointing up.
The child points too.
They stand like that,
squinting, warming their faces.
It is only a moment; the overcast repairs itself
They walk on,
splashing in puddles......................................................Israel Lewis
