"For me, a portrait is first and foremost a work of art, and my goal is to create paintings that go beyond the mere rendering of a likeness. Each portrait is an opportunity not only to commemorate an individual, but to evoke an intimate sense of presence over distance and time."
Originally from New England, Williams works in portraiture, landscape and still lifes. In the Northeast, the American Artists Professional League in New York, and the Cape Cod Art Association have exhibited her landscapes and still life. The California works have been shown at the VIVA Gallery, the Ojai Fine Arts Gallery, the Hidden Cafe in the Pacific Palisades, and at the Pasadena Civic Center.
Since 2002, Williams has concentrated primarily on portraiture and figurative work using traditional prepared painting and academic drawing techniques. Working in a variety of media, from charcoal to oil, the artist offers options that range from head studies to full size figures with detailed backgrounds.
The portraits have won recognition with a series of juried show acceptances, publication and awards, by the Portrait Society of America, American Artist magazine, the Southern California chapter of the American Society of Portrait Artists, and International Artist magazine. | |
