Security is not retrofitting equipment and manpower
after the building is designed. Security is a complete
program which integrates
with the needs of the client with the efficient flow
of traffic of employees, while keeping the public
out of private areas. With the right design consultant,
you can have your cake and eat it too. The public should
be drawn to a main entrance of a facility and feel
welcome. There they should have free
access to public functions such as HR to apply for a
job, Purchasing, Accounts Receivable and restrooms.
They should NOT have free access to R&D,
dangerous production areas, employees’ private lounges, etc. This
is not difficult to accomplish if it is incorporated
into the design of the building. You CANNOT rely on electronics
to achieve or afford these goals after the building is designed.
