Shamrocks & Stones Book Discussion Group

Being a web-based group, many of us have never met in person.  This page is for sharing a wee bit of information about those who wish to do so.

Meet your friends from Shamrocks & Stones.............

Cindy ("Bug").  I am a Western North Carolinian... yes, here in Fraser territory. I am married with two grown step children, three wonderful fuzzy kids now, Camper and Ami, the dogs, and PJ, the cat. I started out being a DG, Outlander fan, then became a EU fan, so here I am. I am a professional Landscaper, but I just call myself a Gardener, with my own business, Bug Eyes and Butterflies. I started the business in 1996 and am still at it, enjoying my work everyday for the most part. I am an outdoorist, all the way around, enjoying camping and hiking on our 85 acre mountain in WNC every chance I get with my DH and dogs. We spend all of our spare time there, or in our yard at home. I spend a litte time every day here with you girls and enjoy coming to S & S. Thanks for creating this place.

Cindy (board name "celtgirl"). I live in the interior of the beautiful
province of British Columbia with my husband Pat and three lovely
daughters, plus an entire menagerie of animals. I'm the author of 'Exit
Unicorns' and its as yet unpublished sequel 'Mermaid in a Bowl of
Tears'. Both books are based around the Irish Troubles, through which a
set of fictional characters moves. Shamrocks and Stones has become an
important part of my day, an online community being the ideal social
life for a writer. There is a great bunch of ladies here and there's
never a dull moment from serious topics to the monthly offering of
'Shamrotica'. Slainte, Cindy.

Elaine.  "Board Name"  Elaine P.  I reside in St. Louis, MO, but don't plan to stay when dh retires in 5 years.  I have 3 kids.  Enjoy travel, reading, gardening (to an extent), sewing and knitting, spinning yarns, and music - listening to it and playing it.  Play piano and cello, and am learning bluegrass banjo and wooden flute.  Enjoy playing music with my husband, Larry, who plays fiddle and mandolin, concentrating on Celtic style but also some bluegrass.  Worked for many years as a legal secretary, but am now 'retired' (without pension!).  Volunteer for several charities including Newborns in Need and Ronald McDonald House in St. Louis, and am a vocal pain in the arse to the legislators in my area.

Frances.  My "board name" is FranS and I live in a small town in NE Texas with my DH who is an M.D. (psychiatry, semi retired), my miniature, long haired dachshund Fritz, and my parents who are 96 and 91.  They have been with us for over 3 yrs. and since I'm fairly homebound, reading is my Great Escape.  I am truly Hosed and also love the Ladies of Lallybroch site.  It's even more fun to have this site also.  I'm also an (inactive) quilter and gardener and I  dabble in the stock market a bit.  We have two adult children, but no grandchildren yet.  I am a RN, but have not worked for many years.  Our home was a B&B for 5 years before my parents came to live with us and we will eventually reopen at some point in the future.   I love the music of Steve McDonald and Loreena McKennitt.

Marilyn.  My board name is also Marilyn and I live in Northern Virginia right now. I grew up all over the US and overseas in a military family so I'm sure we are not rooted here forever. I have been a SAHM for the past 7 years and Love it. My children are older, so maybe I should just say I'm retired without benefits yes? I worked in several areas of the Financial Industry for over 20 years, in my former life.  I love to travel, but I'm not crazy about flying. I enjoy genealogy and am interested in history. I did not like these things when I was younger in school. DH says I have a rebellious streak that makes me cringe at being told I HAVE to do something. I have a passion for anything Irish or Scottish. I also enjoy simple knitting, which means I can make tons of scarves, it relaxes me. Of course I enjoy reading and am very glad that Peggy decided to keep this board going after the 'Exit Unicorns' reread. Thanks to the ladies and the discussions here I'm broadening my horizons and gaining an appreciation for authors and works that I might never have looked twice at before.

Morgan. My "board Name" is also Morgan. I am LadyPeggyB's DH. Quite some time ago, she got me interested in Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander Series" of which I have read through "The Fiery Cross". I have enjoyed reading these books very much and also occasionally visit the Ladies of Lallybroch Boards. I enjoy flyfishing and fly tying, yoga, and just spending time with Peggy and our two boys. I play acoustic and electric guitar (mostly rock and jazz but some classical too) and wish I could devote more time to this. I am a research fishery biologist in Seattle, WA. I think it's entirely cool that Peggy has created this site and she's done a fantastic job.

Peggy.  My "board name" is LadyPeggyB.  I started Shamrocks & Stones out of a desire to share books with some of my online friends, most of whom I met on the Ladies of Lallybroch Boards.  Several of us were interested in a group read of "Exit Unicorns" by Cindy Brandner, we started with that and have decided to continue.  Aside from reading, I enjoy gardening, birdwatching, and many outdoor activities.  I sing soprano in my church choir, and am trying to learn Scottish fiddle; I would also like to learn to play the bohdran I received for Christmas!  I am a fish biologist by training and vocation, but am currently a SAHM.  I live in the Seattle, Washington area.

Shannon (aka Shanarama).  My DH and I are originally from the Seattle area, but have seen many new places thanks to the Air Force.  We are currently enjoying life in the Florida panhandle with lots of sun, heat, and humidity!  I am lucky enough to stay at home with our two young kids and have somehow managed to create my own small online business, as well (Chapter Charms).  Reading is a treasured time for me and I thoroughly enjoy the great escape that wonderful books have to offer.  Even more treasured are the wonderful people that I have met at S&S and LOL.  I am continually amazed and grateful that it is all because of a few great books!  Wishing you all my very best!
