Vermont AGO June Meeting Features Artist-of-the-Year, Ed Boadway

On Sunday June 3rd, a gray overcast afternoon, threatening rain, a goodly number of Vermont AGO members, friends, and church folk wound their way through the greening countryside of Vermont's foothills to the bucolic burg of Proctorsville and Gethsemane Episcopal Church. As Artist-of-the-Year, Ed Boadway chose to feature a beautiful "Philharmonic" reed organ, a sterling example of reed organs that grace the sanctuaries of numerous small Vermont churches and ably and reliably provide music for services and special events week after week, year after year. Gethsemane's organ easily fills the sanctuary space with a scintillating variety of tones and colors, and Ed carefully chose music appropriate for the reed organ that ranged from Pachelbel and Bach to Drischner and Picchi. This event celebrates all the hard work that Ed has done in a variety of capacites for the Vermont AGO Chapter, as well as other AGO chapters, the Organ Historical Society, and the organ world as a whole.

Ed also facilitated the delectable dinner provided by the Gethsemane congregation after the recital and brief business meeting of our chapter. This event was attended by our Councillor of Region I, E. Lary Grossman, who brought us greetings from the New England AGO membership, and applauded our efforts as a Chapter to strive for solvency and support of our young organist through the Norris Fund scholarships. Alan Walker's annual treasurer's report is included in this newsletter.

Membership Renewal Forms for 2007-2008

You no doubt noticed in the past few AGO magazines that National Headquarters has raised dues in all categories for the 2007-2008 year. New rates for Vermont Chapter members are listed on the enclosed Membership Renewal Form. You'll also note that our rates are lower than those specified by Headquarters, as for the past several years, our chapte has absorbed a portion of the fees in each category. The current fees were set by the Executive Committee on April 29, 2007.

Several members' dues are paid by the churches they serve. If you have not asked your church to assist in this way you may wish to consider it. Generally churches have been most willing to take this on.

It would be a great help if you would return your form, with check, to our treasurer at your earliest convenience, August 15 is the deadline on the form. At the start of the summer season, it would be wise to complete this form now and help our chapter have its new membership listing complete and in use for the September newsletter mailing.
