Annual Meeting in June Features Artist-of-the-Year Ed Boadway

Our Annual Meeting will be at Gethsemane Episcopal Church, Proctorsville, VT., on Sunday, June 3. Ed Boadway, Artist-of-the-Year (and a few assisting musicians), will play the large, one-manual 1889 Estey reed organ which he procured for the church to replace a "spinet" electronic in 1997. The "Philharmonic" reed organ is of the type that still serves some 150 Vermont churches, and Estey built more than 520,000 such instruments that made the name Estey synonymous with "organs," just as Steinway came to mind when one mentioned pianos, or Stradivarius was the one name people associated with violins

The small, frame Proctorsville church is a few doors south on Depot St., which intersects with Main St., also Route 131 from Ascutney to Ludlow. The sanctuary seats just 80 people, so this year's event is a "downsized" program that features a Vermont-made product that was world-famous. The recital is at 4:00 p.m., and at the conclusion of the business meeting immediately afterward is a dinner to be served by the Women of Gethsemane. The choices are below, and the cost is $15.00:

1. Glazed chicken breast on a bed of rice.
2. Swedish meatballs (made by a native of Sweden), served with a creamy potato cassarole.
3. For vegetarians, orzo with roasted vegetables.

The meal includes light hors d'oeuvres, white and red wine, home-made rolls, green salad, and asparagus vinaigrette. The desert choices are assorted pies and Pavlova cake, and hot or cold coffee and tea will be available. The dinner will likely be served a little before 5:30.

The parish hall seats just 30 people, so early reservations are recommended! Call Ed Boadway at (603) 542-8142 by the evening of May 19, and those who call too late or don't plan to attend the business meeting might dine at D J's Restaurant, 146 Main St., Ludlow. Reservations are best there, and the telephone number (802) 228-5374. You could also write Ed at E.A. Boadway, Box 863, Claremont, N.H. 03743.
