Tent Information
Dome Tent
The Dome tent is a good all around tent. It is very stable and most can be pitched without stakes which gives them an advantage on frozen ground. It is fairly bulky and heavy because it has a lot of room inside. This extra weight makes this tent a bad choice for backpacking trips.
A Frame Tent
This is a very good tent to bring on backpacking trips because it only weighs from 4 to 8 lbs. Most boy Scouts use these tents but have variations that make them have more room inside and make them stronger. Very good for the winter because the snow will go right off the slanted sides. Favorite colors of this tent include greens, rusts, and browns which blend with the forest.
Wall Tent
This two person tent is meant for long term stationary campouts such as Goshen and other summer camps. Most wall tents sides can be rolled up for ventilation in the summer. A center pole holds the tent upright while two upright poles expand the tent. Most of these tents have cots inside which rest on wooden pallets. The actual tent is made of a cotton-polyester blended material. These tents were not made for overnight camping
Trail Tarp
The trail tarp is very simple to make. It is simply a large piece of waterproof material with places along the edge to tie cords to. These tents have no floor and on A rainy night you might get a little wet. These tents can also be used as patrol dining flies. These tents can be made in different ways such as a pyramid, a lean-to, and a pup tent. This tent is very versatile and very light.
