WXSpots - Please Help Spread the Word!

Share your passion for weather!

For WXSpots to catch on, we will need your help to build our user base.  If you like this idea, we would really appreciate your help in spreading the word.  Here are a few suggestions to do just that:

- Tell the members of your local SkyWarn / Amateur Radio group.

- If you maintain a web page (or know someone who does), encourage them to add a link to http://www.wxspots.com.

 - Spread the word on any e-mail groups that you belong to.

 - Spread the word to other weather enthusiasts.  Remember, you don't have to be a ham to use WXSpots, and the additional eyes will make this service more valuable.  It might also wind up bringing a few people into the Amateur Radio hobby.  Weather clubs and weather station users groups come to mind, and I'm sure there are many other possibilities.  Think outside the box!

 - Use presentations that have already been prepared or create your own.

Liz Myers, KE5NKL was kind enough to send along this PowerPoint presentation that was prepared during the beta period of WXSpots development.  You can use the presentation as is, or as a starting point for your own development.  Just please make sure to give Liz the appropriate credit:

If you have a presentation in PowerPoint, Word (or any electronic format for that matter) and would be willing to make it available to others, please send it along and I'll be happy to add it to the website!

 - Post to forums such as QRZ and send press releases with text along the lines of:

WXSpots is Now Available!

WXSpots, a new tool in the tool chest for SkyWarn operations and weather enthusiasts is now available!  WXSpots is a free, Internet based system designed to quickly disseminate observed reports of severe weather to all connected users.

WXSpots is a tool in the tool chest for those interested in severe weather observations.  By its very nature of dependence on the Internet, WXSpots can't provide data from a severely affected area.  That is where Amateur Radio shines brightest!  On the other hand, WXSpots can quickly communicate data from those observers just outside it.  It also provides the means to help monitor local severe weather as it unfolds with many more observers able to communicate what they are seeing.

WXSpots features include:

-  The ability to disseminate observations quickly and efficiently anywhere.

-  The ability to add the eyes of SkyWarn enthusiasts who aren't Amateur Radio Operators.

-  The ability to instantly create message groups with other connected users on the fly.

- The ability to monitor observations from all users, or only display observations for your state or county.

-  An automated, historical record of recent observations.

-  The ability to keep tabs on current observations without necessarily being near a radio.
