Volunteer County
Coordinators
Like most things in life, regardless of
how enthused we may be, if we aren't actively involved in something
and connecting with others we tend to forget about it. Since most WXSpots users will
only log on when severe weather is occurring and weeks or months
may pass between events, many willing and useful sets of eyes may
forget about WXSpots without a timely reminder.
Generally, the folks that continue to use WXSpots
are those that are part of a local group of weather enthusiasts. Not
only is it more interesting for the user as he feels connected with
his local community, it results in many more observations from a local
area. If you would like to make that happen in your county or
area, here is how to get started:
- Contact others in your area that you
know who are interested in weather and tell them about WXSpots. If
you see someone from your area sign on to WXSpots, go ahead and send
them a message using the WXSpots message feature.
- Keep a list of e-mail addresses of your
WXSpots user group.
- E-mail your group when severe weather
is expected and remind them to meet on WXSpots.
- You may want to have weekly or monthly
round table chats using the WXSpots message feature to keep folks familiar
with the software.
- Keep it fun! People connect and
come back because they enjoy sharing an interest.
We originally listed all the US Counties
and e-mail addresses beside those with coordinators. That became
a time consuming task to maintain. Coordinators told us that they
are building their groups by contacting people locally, not through
this web page, so we decided to remove the list, but the coordinator
concept is key to the growth of WXSpots and very much encouraged.
If this sounds like something you would like
to do, please start! Odds are there isn't yet a coordinator for
your county. Even if there already is, that will come to light
as you spread the word about the software or during the next severe
weather event. Both you and the other coordinator will be very
pleased to have additional observers on board!
Some coordinators have posted their information
to the WXSpots forum. Please be sure to check here if you are
looking for a coordinator in your area or would like to be one:
