These recordings were all made in the late 1980's on a Tascam 144 4-track tape recorder like the one pictured above. Most of the drum parts were created with a Sequential Circuits drum machine. The instruments and vocals were all done my Lou & myself. The lead vocals are all Lou though. Since most of the recordings contain multiple guitars and voices, there was much "bouncing" of tracks. That combined with less than optimal digital mastering and low MP3 bit rates results in not-so-great sound quality. However, they're still pretty listenable IMHO.

This has a "backward guitar solo. To record it, we had to flip the cassette and record on the inverse track (i.e. if we wanted the guitar on track 1, we had to record on track 4 while the tape was flipped). We goofed during a "punch-out" at the end of the solo (actually a "punch-in" at the beginning of the solo since the tape was upside-down). This goof-up resulted in the inadvertent erasure of some instrumental material that had already been "bounced". Instead of starting over, we erased a little more of the instruments and thus created a short a cappella section. |

This track features a real timbale in addition to the E-drums. It is most prominent during the "Summer is here..." break and during the guitar solo. |

This makes use of an old (even for the time) spring tank reverb unit. I guess it adds to the "authenticity" ! |
