Welcome to the homepage of

Selkirk Fire Company #3

South Bethlehem, New York, USA

Home of the very few,
and sometimes proud,
(though mostly humble)...

We're just neighbors helping neighbors...
no room for politics in this little volunteer company!

Here's the Selkirk Fire Department logo,
which includes all 3 fire company locations:

(Co. #1 is in Selkirk, and Co. #2 is in Glenmont)

Here's the Company mascot:

Company #3 was established in 1957,
and it is situated in the southwest corner of the fire district.

There are very few fire hydrants in our part of the district,
so our Company is responsible for a 2,500 gallon tanker (ETA-43).

It's been said that due to our lack of hydrants, we suck... water that is.

We also operate a custom pumper (E-48),

and a brush truck (E-45).

Among the more unusual property in our part of the district
is the famous Selkirk Rail Yard, which is probably the largest
such facility in the eastern USA, and several large industrial sites.

The Selkirk fire district encompasses an area of about 30 square miles,
and has an estimated population of 8,500. The district also includes
about seven miles of Hudson River frontage, and consequently, the district
operates a rescue boat as well. There are also about seven miles of NYS
Thruway within the district, which tends to keep Company #1's heavy
rescue truck (R-46) rolling quite a bit.

There were 332 fire calls in the Selkirk Fire District in 2007.

Special Memorial Recognition

On February 5th of 1997, we lost our 1st Assistant Chief,
Kevin Charles Seaburg, who died in the line of duty during overhaul
of a structure fire scene. Though only 38 years old at the time of his
tragic death, Kevin had more than 21 years of service to this company.
Though he's no longer here in person, he will never be forgotten.

Now hear this...

Monitor radio frequency 155.9700 MHz on your scanner to hear
all fire and ambulance action in the Town of Bethlehem.
(The Town is also still dispatching calls on its former frequency
of 46.06 MHZ, but that will cease at some point in the future.)

Kevin is an active member of Selkirk Fire Co. 3, who was involved in a very serious motorcycle accident in June of 2005,
which left him hospitalized for an extended period of time. After one surgery to repair his broken neck and two surgeries
to repair a broken leg, Kevin has a long, tough road ahead of him to recovery.
