Somerset Hangs On For a One-Run Victory Over Bishop Carroll

SOMERSET:   Somerset’s third pitcher of the game, Andy Harvey, retired the final batter of the game with the tying run on second base to preserve the Eagles 6-5 victory over Bishop Carroll on Wednesday.

Somerset’s starting pitcher Drew Shaulis threw three shutout innings while allowing only one hit.  Shaulis struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Shaulis helped his own cause in the bottom of the first by drawing a leadoff walk.  He moved to second on the first of Tyler Ferry’s two singles in the game.  He then scored as Tyler Uphouse ripped a line drive to right.  Ferry scored when Adam Angermeier bounced into a fielder’s choice.  Angermeier scored the final run of the inning on a throwing error.

In the fourth, Adam Crookshank greeted Landon Wahl with a double to right.  Crookshank scored when Matt Dumm reached on a fielding error.

Somerset opened up a 6-1 lead in the fourth.  Josh Barron walked and scored on a groundout by Alex Lenhart.  Zach Deist singled and scored when Shaulis reached on an error.  Shaulis scored Somerset’s final run of the game on Ferry’s single.

BC made the game interesting in the sixth when they scored four runs off of Wahl.  Somerset committed two costly errors in the inning.  Harvey came on to close out the inning, and he was able to hold BC scoreless in the seventh to help Somerset maintain their perfect LHAC record.

Somerset (7-1) will host Forest Hills on Friday at 4:30.
