Angermeier’s Complete Game Propels Somerset to a 4-2 Victory Over Bishop McCort

ROXBURY PARK:  Senior Adam Angermeier threw a complete game four-hitter to lead the Eagles to their fifth consecutive victory to open the season.  Angermeier walked five and struck out eight.

Somerset’s leadoff batter Drew Shaulis started the game with a bounding double inside the first base bag off of the Crusher’s starter Frank Furfari.  Tyler Ferry’s groundout to the right side advanced Shaulis to third.  The next batter, Tyler Uphouse, delivered his first of three RBI’s on the day with a groundout to first.

McCort responded with two runs of their own in the second.  Brent Schellhammer and Brennan Becker both walked and scored on a double to right center by John Terlecki.

Somerset would even the score at two in the top of the next frame as Shaulis walked, advanced all the way to third on a bunt by Ferry, and scored on another groundout by Uphouse.

Shaulis and Uphouse would combine for Somerset’s third run in the fifth as Uphouse’s single scored Shaulis with two outs in the inning.

Somerset’s final tally came in the sixth when Jordan Kaufman walked, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error, and scored on a groundout by Zach Deist.  This would be the final run of the game that Somerset could muster versus Furfari.  Furfari struck out six, walked six, and yielded only two hits in the game.

Angermeier worked out of trouble in three different innings.  He stranded ten McCort runners in the game.

Both teams committed three errors.

Somerset (5-0) will travel to Tyrone on Thursday at 4:00.
