Somerset Moves One Game Closer to the LHAC Title

SOMERSET:  The Somerset Eagles clinched at least a share of the LHAC conference title by defeating Bishop McCort on Thursday.  The Eagles can secure the title with a win in either one of their two remaining games.

Somerset’s starting pitcher Drew Shaulis threw five innings.  He allowed four walks early in the game, but he settled in to limit the Crushers to four runs on five hits.  He recorded six strikeouts.  Jordan Kaufman threw his first two innings of the season to close out the game.  He allowed one run on two hits.  He recorded one strikeout.

Bishop McCort’s starting pitcher Frank Furfari helped his own cause with a two-run homerun in the first inning, but he didn’t fare as well on the mound.  He lasted only 1 2/3 innings and allowed nine runs on nine hits.

Somerset recorded four consecutive hits to start the game as they batted around in the first inning.  They repeated the feat in the second as they took advantage of five walks.  After two innings, Somerset led 9-2.

The Eagles added solo runs in the third and fourth innings, and Shaulis and Kaufman held the Crushers at bay for the remainder of the game.

Zach Deist had two singles and four RBI’s for the Eagles.  Tyler Uphouse and Adam Angermeier both were 2-3 with a double.  Shaulis was 2-2 and scored twice.  Josh Barron had a single and drove in two.

Somerset (14-3) will host Westmont on Tuesday at 4:30.
