SOMERSET: Sophomore Jordan
Kaufman ripped a three run, walk-off homerun in the bottom of the seventh
inning to lead Somerset to an 8-6 victory over visiting Johnstown. Kaufman also hit a solo homerun in the
second inning as he finished the day with four RBI’s.
Somerset’s
starting pitcher Landon
Wahl overcame some early wildness and two costly fielding errors to throw a
complete game. Wahl allowed only three
earned runs on eight hits. He struck
out nine and walked three. He improved
his record to 4-0 on the season.
After
Johnstown jumped out to 4-0 lead in the top-of-the- second inning, Kaufman
narrowed the margin with a long, towering homerun to left. Andy
Harvey then singled, advanced to second on a single by catcher Josh
Barron, and scored on an errant throw of Zach
Deist’s sacrifice bunt.
After
Johnstown scored an unearned run in the third, Somerset scored in the fourth as
Harvey walked and scored when Alex
Lenhart’s groundball was thrown away for an error.
After
the third inning, Wahl settled down and effectively shut down the Trojans until
the seventh inning when Jared Lear led off with a homerun to right. The Eagles trailed 6-3 facing their last AB.
Drew
Shaulis started the inning with an infield single off of starter Tim
Fetzer. Tyler
Ferry, Tyler
Uphouse, and Adam
Angermeier all followed with bounding singles to cut the lead to 6-5. Before Kaufman stepped to the plate, Keith
Sabo was brought in to pitch. Kaufman
promptly ripped Sabo’s first pitch deep to right to set the final at 8-6.
Somerset
(13-2) will travel to Richland
on Tuesday at 4:30.
