Shaulis’ one-hit gem leads Somerset to a 10-0 victory over Richland.

SOMERSET:  Junior left-hander Drew Shaulis threw a one hitter while recording six strikeouts to lead Somerset over previously unbeaten Richland 10-0 on Monday.  Shaulis hit one batter and only walked one in the five-inning game.

Somerset scored in their half of the first when Tyler Ferry reached on a walk from Richland’s starter CJ Verostick and scored on a long double to left-center by Tyler Uphouse.

Somerset added two more runs in the second.  Andy Harvey led off the inning with an infield single.  After Zach Deist was hit by a two-strike curveball, Josh Barron advance both runners with a sacrifice bunt.  While Alex Lenhart was at the plate, Harvey scored on a wild pitch.  After Lenhart walked, Deist scored on a groundout by Shaulis.

In the third, Adam Angermeier singled to right with one out.  Jordan Kaufman followed with an infield single.  Harvey delivered an RBI single to score Angermeier, and Kaufman scored on a two-out double by Barron.  Richland brought on Joe Novotny to close out the third.

Shaulis reached to lead off the fourth on a Richland fielding error.  John Heiple came on as a courtesy runner for Shaulis.  After Ferry singled and Uphouse flew out to center, Heiple scored on a sacrifice fly by Angermeier.

Somerset, leading 6-0 after four innings, scored four runs in the fifth to reach the ten run mercy rule.  Lenhart doubled, and Ferry and Uphouse both delivered RBI singles.  The game ended when Ferry scored from third on an errant pickoff attempt by Richland’s catcher.

Shaun Stapleton had the only Richland hit of the game – a clean double inside the bag at third in the first inning.
