The Eagles Fall To Richland in Extra Innings 5-4

RICHLAND:  The Richland Rams handed the Somerset Eagles their first LHAC loss of the season by defeating them 5-4 in extra innings on Tuesday.  The Rams scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score, and they scored an unearned run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the victory.  The Eagles’ loss temporarily prevented them from clinching the LHAC title.  The Eagles still maintain a two game lead over second place Richland with three games to play.

Somerset’s starting pitcher Adam Angermeier (5-1) tossed 7 2/3 innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on nine hits.  He struck out seven and walked three.  Despite the fine performance, he suffered his first loss of the season.  The Eagles’ defense faltered during the game committing six errors behind Angermeier.

Richland’s starting pitcher Joe Novotny threw seven solid innings versus the Eagles.  He allowed nine hits and three walks.  He did not strike out a batter.  Brandon Wentz pitched a perfect eighth inning to earn the victory.

Drew Shaulis and Josh Barron each had three hits for the Eagles.  Barron had a double and scored three runs.  Zach Deist added a two run single in the second.

Somerset (13-3) will host Bishop McCort on Thursday at 4:30.
