For me dialectic
is a fascinating approach for changes. In dialectic development occurs through the stages of thesis, antithesis and synthesis.
Contradictory ideas move forward to a consensus, opposing forces interact to find a resolution. Although we might not be aware
of the dialectic in our lives, it is present nevertheless. We apply dialectic in conversations and arguments and in the comparison
of true and false. We find examples of dialectic in our behavior and in our emotions. It is the driving force of scientific
discoveries, and it is part of the evolution of society.
Art quilts allow
me to depict examples of dialectic through the choice of color, shapes and material. Bright colors emphasis the contrast,
bold shapes the opposition and the soft fabric is combind with fragile glass beads or rigid metal wires. And yet, these individual
components develop through juxtaposition into the visualization of one message. The opposites are embraced and find a resolution
in their interaction.
My education and
professional training allowed me to develop an intimate relationship with the most amazing type of art that exists for me.
With an MS in biology and a PhD in biochemistry I'm exposed to the beauty of nature on a macromolecular scale as well as the
intriguing interactions of molecules on a cellular level. Life around me is a never-ending source of inspiration.
