(Ed Chang)
Player A plays continuously, Player B only plays "interruptions" (short, loud bursts of noise) in order to force A to change in the following sequence:
1 lower (pitches)
2 faster (rhythm)
3 higher
4 slower
After 4 interruptions, the cycle repeats (5th interruption signals lower pitch register).
Finally B joins in (free) and after a short duo, A drops out, and becomes the interrupter.
Repeat.
The idea is that the interrupter forces the continuous player to continue to change until a desirable texture is hit, for the interrupter to play with, similar to channel surfing.
The interrupting sections should be relatively fast, and the duo sections slightly longer.
Var. - Interrupter can choose individual texture direction with # of
hits in interruption (3 accents signals higher register). Can repeat same
signal as well (3...3... = higher...higher)
One player plays throughout, but whenever another player plays (a
1 sec, loud, dense sound) the mainplayer must change texure/style immediately.
The interrupting players play signals in <RR> order (for trio, alternate signallers) and can signal at anytime when their turn.
After a while, the main player signals someone else to be the main player. Continue until all players have had a turn as the main player. End with section of everybody quickly changing short textures one after another.
Var. - For each section (person's turn as main player) the interruptions are spread out (up to 20 secs) and become closer and closer together (up to 1 sec), and then switch main players.
Var. - The main player changes style/texture to match/imitate the signaller's sound burst (which is just long enough to express an idea/texture).
