After The Flood

Abraham & Isaac
God's angel stays the hand of Abraham, our father in Faith, who was willing to sacrifice his only son - something the Father himself was willing to do for our salvation.

The Burning Bush
The bush burns and is unconsumed. When Moses was called by God, he was told to remove his sandals, for he stood upon holy ground. God names himself by saying "I am Who am." I am being itself. Moses is then sent to the Israelites, the chosen people, to lead them out of bondage. Thus the Exodus is begun.

The Covenant
God's covenant with Abraham was, "I will be your God if you will be my people." The angels of the Lord hold the tablets of the covenant given to Moses in the desert on the way to the Promised Land. The covenant promise is fulfilled in the Lord Jesus.

The Baptism of Our Lord
Baptized by John in the Jordan, Jesus begins his public ministry: the fulfillment of the promise is close at hand. The voice of the Father thunders, "This is my beloved Son, listen to Him."

The Lord's Supper
The disciple that looks on as Jesus breaks the bread is "every disciple." We as a people are a Eucharistic community. Fed at the hand of the Lord, we are empowered to be the "Body of Christ" in the world.

Pieta
The promise is fulfilled in the death of Christ. Obedient to the Father, Christ has given himself for the salvation of us all. Atonement ("at-one-ment") is accomplished. The grief of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, is profound. As she holds her son, the dead Christ, we see strength in Mary's face. Now, she becomes the Mother of the Church.

New Life
New life is ours because of the saving actions of the Lord Jesus Christ which symbolically flows from the shell that represents our Baptism into his death and resurrection. This living water bears fruit in our lives and graces our days with the mystery of God's love for us. The beauty of this mystery is represented in the lillies.
