St. Casimir Polish Roman Catholic Church was established in 1908 to serve Polish speaking people who lived in the Ironbound section of Newark.  Before this time there was only one Roman Catholic Church for the Polish people living in the city of Newark. The rapid growth of the city and the large Polish immigration prompted Fr. Vitus Maśnicki, pastor of St. Stanislaus Church, Irvine Turner Blvd. (High St.), to make plans for a Polish parish in the Ironbound.  The first Mass was celebrated in the neighboring St. Benedict's School Hall on Sunday, September 6, 1908.  Immediately after this Mass, a parish meeting was held.  Fr. Julius Manteuffel, the first pastor, proposed  St. Casimir as the patron of the new parish.  The parishioners agreed.  Within months blueprints for the new Church and school building combination were drawn (now the present Academy).  Ground was broken for a new and separate Church building in 1917 and construction was completed in 1920.  The new edifice was blessed by the Most Reverend Bishop O'Connor, Bishop of the Newark Diocese, on July 4 of the same year.

With the indomitable spirit of Polish immigrants as its driving force, St. Casimir's quickly grew into the impressive parish complex we enjoy today including our magnificent church, the newly renovated and updated St. Casimir Academy, the rectory and convent buildings.

As the parish approaches its 100th anniversary, it looks proudly upon the past and its history of service to its original Polish-American parishioners; upon its present service to their descendents, to new Polish immigrants and to the community- at-large, especially through St. Casimir Academy; and in anticipation of future service to the People of God building up this little portion of God's Kingdom on earth.

Currently we are in the midst of a CAPITAL CAMPAIGN for the replacement of the Church roof, repair of steeples and sanctuary dome, the repair of stained glass window frames and the re-pointing the brick exterior.  The estimated cost of repair exeeds $500,000.  Our goal for this campaign is $300,000.  Our parishioners have generously pledged $200,000 thus far.

The Church is located at 91 Pulaski St., between E. Kinney and Nichols Streets.  The mailing address is 164 Nichols St.  07105  Today, Masses and devotions are offered in English as well as in Polish.

Jesteśmy dumni z dokonan poprzednich pokolen naszych parafian i z nadzieja patrzymy w przyszlość.  Prosimy Boga o błogosławienstwo w pracy duszpasterskiej a Św. Kaziemierza o pieke.

Księże niezłmny Święty Kazimierzu,

Królewski synu i chlubo Ojczyzny,

Jesteś jak gwiazda,

Która zajaśniała nad naszą ziemią,

Żyjęc na Świecie, ale nie dla Świata,

Wybraleś drogi pokornej miłości

Wiedząc, że tlko w Bogu jest wesele

I pełnia szczęcia.

Jakże jest trudno wzgardzić zaszczytami

I w glęby serca pozostał ubogim,

Jakże nie łatwo wsród młodości pokus

Zachować czystość!

Naucz nas, księżę, szukać woli Pana

I czułę matkę zajdował w Maryi,

Ona niech raczy oba twe narody

Ogarnąć płaszczem.

Módl się za nami, Święty Królewiczu,

Bo chcemy z Tobą w niebieskiej ojczy nie

Piełnić wdziączności wielbić Boga w Trójcy

Przez wszystkie wieki.

Amen.
