Long, long ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

The Star Wars series of movies captured the imagination of a generation with their unique combination of action, adventure, special effects, and heroic themes. The Star Wars universe has spun off into television, books, toys, and games. In particular, Star Wars enjoyed a healthy run as a roleplaying game, produced by West End Games. WEG produced a vast range of source material to support their game, fleshing out the Star Wars universe for exciting game play, and sometimes testing the limits of fan expectations of Star Wars.

In 1998, West End filed for bankruptcy, and lost the Star Wars license. In late 1999, it passed on to Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro and makers of Dungeons & Dragons. Since Wizards' acquired the license, there has been speculation about how their Star Wars game will differ from the game produced by West End. Most likely, the game will use a version of one of Wizards' in-house game systems: D&D 3rd edition, Alternity, or the SAGA System (used for Dragonlance: Fifth Age and Marvel Super Heroes). Honestly, odds are good it won't be SAGA (since it's sort of the red-headed stepchild of Wizards' game systems).

In my opinion, SAGA's simple and elegant mechanics are a perfect match for the feel of Star Wars, so I've taken it upon myself to offer one possible way of using SAGA to play a Star Wars game. I hope you enjoy it and (whatever game system you may play) may the Force be with you...
