NEW HOTCHKISS MILITARY WEBSITE!
Since he began his Civil War research in 1998-9, Don has gathered information and created a data base on more than 450 Hotchkiss men who participated in the Civil War. Of these more than 33, both Union and Confederate, served at Gettysburg those three fateful days in July 1863. His military research now fills four file cabinets! He is currently preparing a book - Hotchkiss Men in the Civil War - which when completed will be a milepost. He has been instrumental in obtaining gravestones for unmarked military graves and will provide assistance in obtaining a VA tombstone for any veteran of any war, Hotchkiss or not. Just ask. Don was responsible for an outstanding HFA reunion in 2004 that was held in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, site of the greatest battle ever fought on this continent and one of the most decisive battles in world history. Today the Gettysburg battlefields and campgrounds are part of a 6,000 acre National Park. As a new aspect of our HFA Military History, Don has prepared information from his extensive database to be shared at a recently created website. Janet Stearman, a Hotchkiss descendant, has prepared this beautiful new presentation which is an extensive work in progress. It is Don's hope that it will be an inspiration to Hotchkiss' everywhere to dig out their dusty ancestor files and forward to him copies of letters, pictures, notes and other memorabilia on their military ancestors to be included in his records and for possible future presentation at the website. (Please provide supporting documentation whenever possible.) Janet has spent many hours creating appealing pages at this site to encompass the many conflicts where Hotchkiss ancestors and relatives have served. Don generously offers to provide copies of files he has - send him your request by email. If you click HERE you will be transported to this great new resource! |
