Notes From Joan Johnson
Hotchkiss Family Association Genealogist
(and other items of genealogical interest)

Joan has available a list of Family Periodicals, Genealogical Libraries (worldwide) and a Directory of Societies. Libraries and Archives for the United States. If you are interested in more information, contact Joan by mail or email.

STATUS OF OUR NEXT BOOK - THE LINE FROM JOHN

Joan is still hard at work preparing the third Hotchkiss genealogy book encompassing the "John Line". Every family group sheet is being reviewed. New data is being entered from the information received over the past few years and biographical information clipped to the group sheets. Joan says she has now further whittled down the pile of resource material. The John line is so large that it will probably be in excess of 2000 pages and require multiple volumes. The June 30, 2006 deadline has now passed and there is no assurance that any further submissions will be included.

But new information is always welcome and can be retained in the archive for future use. Send photocopies of newspaper articles, obituaries, bible entries, letters and other related material. Make sure you note the family number or the line of descent from Samuel as much as you are able with dates, places and complete names. Do not send originals since nothing will be returned and due to limited storage space most material submitted is destroyed after gleaning the data. We'd like all data for our records, but do highlight any data that should not be published. PLEASE - NO lNlTlALS OR NICKNAMES.

So please continue to provide Joan with updates to all Hotchkiss families as part of our mission to insure the Hotchkiss lines are documented for future generations.

NOTE: For your convenience blank "Family Group Sheets" are available for you to print and enter your family information. There are two pages. Click HERE.

OUR SECOND GENEALOGY BOOK

Copies of the genealogical record of the descendants of Samuel Hotchkiss’ son Joshua are still available but the supply has been significantly diminished. If you've been putting it off, better get a copy before they're gone. Give a copy to your local library or historical society, or give them information for ordering. For more information, click HERE.

THANK YOU...

Thank you to everyone for their generous donations to support the Hotchkiss Family Association and for numerous cards and notes. It is always so nice to hear from so many cousins!

GENETIC GENEALOGY

From Rex Hotchkiss --

Folks, our Hotchkiss Y-DNA project has born its first fruit. The results are on the project site. Three Hotchkiss men have now been tested. One was myself, another was a definite member of the Samuel Hotchkiss 1622 line, and a third had only been able to trace his line back to New York in the 1800's. Well, the last two were a definite match, so we know now that the missing ancestors link to Samuel himself or a closely related line.

Come on, Hotchkiss gentlemen, and have yourself tested. Our Military Genealogist, Don Hotchkiss has decided to participate. If we are able to have a large number of people tested within Samuel's various lines, we are likely to be able to trace people's lineage much more closely than just whether they are in Samuel's line or not.
