LOOKING AHEAD

2008 REUNION. Several volunteers are putting together a western reunion for the Hotchkiss Family Association. Briefly, it will be held in Portland, Oregon August 1 through 4 2008. More later.

2009 REUNION. A 2009 Reunion focusing on Hotchkiss participants in the Revolutionary War is in the planning stage as an encore to the highly successful Civil War reunion program at Gettysburg, PA. As a starter names of R.W. veterans and when possible, photos of their gravesites are being collected. Here is a great opportunity to participate! Check your area for gravesites of R.W. Hotchkiss ancestors and R.W. sons of Hotchkiss wives; visit the cemetery and take a picture, noting the cemetery name, the veteran's name and any additional pertinent information. Send a print or email an attachment to the Newsletter editor, Lin Meeker.

OUR SECOND GENEALOGY BOOK

Copies of the genealogical record of the descendants of Samuel Hotchkiss' son Joshua are still available but the supply is shrinking and not many copies are left. If you've been putting it off, better get a copy before they're gone. Give a copy to your local library or historical society, or give them information for ordering. For more information, click HERE.

HOTCHKISS COAT-OF-ARMS

A beautiful Hotchkiss Coat of Arms in six colors on simulated parchment, 11 x 14 inches and very suitable for framing is now available. A small version can be seen as part of the header for this web site.

Tradition indicates the arms was given to the Lord Mayor of London, a member of the Hotchkiss family, in the 12th century by Richard the Lion Hearted. Most of the information about the design was provided c. 1912-1920 by Jerome Ringrose, an authority on heraldry in London at that time. He stated, "the engrailed chevron and rampant lions in the Hotchkiss shield-of-arms are known around the world and represent the facts that your early kinsmen of the old English family of Hotchkiss were of ancient and knightly lineage."

This project was initiated several years ago by the late DeWolf Hotchkiss and is now being handled by Mrs. Brenda Hotchkiss, PO Box 63, Mexico, NY 13114. The price is $6. each plus $4. handling and postage for mailing to one address. Include a gift card with your order if you wish it to be shipped to someone else. Make checks to: Hotchkiss Family Association, Inc. Be sure to include your name and address, number of copies requested, your check, and any additional shipping addresses. Including your family relationship will be helpful to our Genealogist.

DONATIONS

Donations to The Hotchkiss Family Association are always welcome and should be sent to Joan Johnson, 36 Beach Drive, Prospect CT 06712-1603. The Association operates on donations in lieu of dues. Contributions support genealogical record keeping, the newsletter (3 per year) and assist in preparation of our genealogical books. Every little bit helps.

Thank You for your support!
