September 20, 2009

HOLY COMMUNION is celebrated in our services this morning. + Guests who are baptized Christians, who acknowledge and confess their sinfulness, who confess Jesus Christ as their Savior from sin, and who believe that He is really present in Holy Communion to bring us His forgiveness and life, are welcome to the Lord's Table. + If you commune, please note it on your attendance card. The cups toward the center of the Communion trays contain non-alcoholic wine. Children are welcome to come forward to receive a blessing.

THE JOY OF HYMN SINGING: The American Guild of Organists Hymn Festival is TODAY at 4 pm in our sanctuary. We hope you will all plan on joining us for this very special opportunity and tell your music loving friends--if they come they will thank you!

LWR SCHOOL & HEALTH KIT UPDATE: Thanks for your donations of items for the kits. We are a little lop-sided on the amount of items we have received so if you still are shopping for these items we especially need: unsharpened #2 pencils, rulers with centimeters on one side, 70 sheet notebooks, pencil sharpeners, school kit bags (check church entryway rack for pattern), hand towels (dark color preferred), toothbrushes, sturdy combs, ½" or ¾" band aids, metal nail files (or clippers with file attached) and wrapped bath-size soap. Call Linda  276-0373 with questions.

WAS A SUCCESS! Thanks to the many of you who worked so hard to make this possible. You are very appreciated! Some extra special bargains left over from yesterday are on display in the fellowship hall in case you’re interested in taking a look. All proceeds will go toward new school building needs.

CONFIRMATION INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM   resumes TODAY at 6 PM with an Orientation Meeting.  At least one parent of each student must attend the meeting on the 20th. All 7th and 8th graders are welcome to participate in the program and especially urged to attend the Orientation.  If you have any questions on whether to attend or not, please call Pastor Krueger in the church office.
HELP OTHERS!  HELP YOURSELF!  Our generation has been noted for being virtually “Biblically illiterate!” How can this be? And one of our church’s greatest needs is to capture a Godly vision for ministry. You can help with both of these needs. How?  By participating in our Fall Care Group Series (Small Groups), “God’s Vision - Our Vision,” you can help!  You can help others and you can help yourself as we grow in the Word together and strive to see God’s vision for Shepherd of the Valley. Sign up after service out front TODAY to join a small group for the Fall Series of sermon-based growth group discussions.

EARLY COMMUNION CLASS  for all 10 year olds and up who are not confirmed.  Classes have been set for 9/27; 10/11; 10/18; 10/25 in the conference room in the church office, from 4:30 - 5:30 P.M.  Please note that attendance at all four classes is required to successfully complete the program.  If interested please contact the church office as soon as possible.

Coming Soon! October 4th at 1:00 pm here at Shepherd!  Sign up on the sheet in the lobby if you plan to come. Burgers, Dogs & Drinks will be provided. Bring a dish to share. Lots of fun and games planned. Invite your friends & neighbors!

DRAMA!  Do you like drama? (On stage...or elsewhere?)  Well, why not consider “DIVINE DRAMA,”an in depth Bible Study program that surveys the major themes of the entire Bible. If you’d like to know more about the course and have a real passion for the study of God’s Word, contact Dennis Nash or Pastor Krueger.

SERVICE OF UNITY & FELLOWSHIP  The ‘one’ service held on the 5th Sunday of August was well attended and received much favorable feedback. We are planning another service on the 5th Sunday of November, 11/29 at 9:30 A.M. This is  the Sunday of the Thanksgiving holiday week-end and the First Sunday in Advent. Please mark your calendars ahead of time so you don’t forget. This would be an excellent opportunity to invite a friend or neighbor to come to church with you!

TRANSFORMING CHURCHES NETWORK - REVITALIZATION PROCESS   Continue to pray for Shepherd of the Valley in this process.  We are getting underway! Also, a Day of Envisioning will hopefully be set for a Saturday in November.  Please stay informed, pray and plan to participate in this vital beginning of our two-year revitalization.
