Welcome to my homepage. I'm Capt. Butch Tawes and I skipper the charterboat "Capt. Rocky" from Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield, Maryland. From Somers Cove, we are only a short run to the bountiful waters of Tangier Sound, Pocomoke Sound, and the Chesapeake Bay.
We begin fishing in late April with the opening of Maryland's trophy rockfish season and the appearance of the first croakers, and keep ongoing until near Christmas when Virginia's rockfish season ends. Click on my schedule icon below for further info on species and seasons.
Historically the waters surrounding Crisfield have produced
large numbers of stripers, seatrout, bluefish, croakers(hardheads), and flounder
with other species in lesser numbers. With the exception of stripers the
other species are caught while anchored or slowly
drifting.
This is a very relaxing way for families and
friends to fish. Normally bottomfishing is done in waters of 40ft.or less
and with
fairly light tackle.
