Classic RV Club - About Us

HOMEACTIVITIESHISTORYMEMBERSGAMES WE PLAY

The Classic RV Club consists of a group of friends from the Portland, Oregon and Southwest Washington area who enjoy camping together throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall. During the Winter months, we get together socially for meals and to work on some charitable projects.

Our History

The Classic RV Club first met at Ike Kinswa State Park in Washington, September 1992; the club was officially chartered in January 1993. The original purpose was to showcase classic motor homes - anything older than 20 years of age. Members also found an added benefit in the exchange of information regarding problems that exist in these older rigs such as where to find parts, advice on technical problems, and of course, to enjoy the camping experience with a group of like-minded RV enthusiasts. The original group consisted of 20 families - around 40 people. Members came from the Portland metropolitan area and Southwest Washington.

Classic RV Club Today

Membership remains about the same today with some older members leaving and new members joining. The purpose of the club has changed from "Classic RVs" to welcoming anyone who enjoys RVing and Camping regardless of the age of their RV. As members bought newer rigs and invited their friends to join, the club encompassed a variety of RVs including tent trailers, travel trailers, fifth wheels, motor homes, etc. We sometimes say that our club focus has changed from "Classic RVs" to "Classic Members" as many of us have gotten older. We have been encouraged recently as some younger members have joined our ranks.

Our Activities

The Classic RV Club schedules campouts about every six weeks from March through November averaging six to seven outings a year. We take the Winter months off to enjoy the holidays, spend time with family, and make other travel plans (plus staying warm by the fire). In December, we gather for a Holiday Brunch at a local restaurant and go out for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and a chance to get updated on other members during January and February.

Camping locations are usually within a 100 miles of Portland, OR, with an occasional trip outside that range. Our criteria for selecting a destination RV park is ability for our club to camp close together and availability of a club room for group dinners and club meetings. We have our favorite destinations which we try to return to every few years but we are always looking for new venues.
