Edward1 BARKER, b. circa 1625, was said to have come from England in 1640, and was a well known merchant in 1650 in New Haven, CT, where he carried on an extensive trade with Barbados, West Indies. In 1671 he purchased land in Branford, CT, which included a house, home-lot, orchard, horse pasture and other lands. He married Elizabeth FOWLER. Children born in New Haven and Branford, CT:
William2 (Edward1) BARKER, b. 1668, d. 31 Jan 1741, m. in 1689 Elizabeth HARRISON, daughter of Thomas H. and Elizabeth (_______) HARRISON. William was a prominent man and a Judge, was twice elected to the General Court and a member of the Court of Sessions in 1707, Justice of Peace for Suffolk Co. for many years. He left 17,000 pounds when he died which was very wealthy for those times. Children, born in Branford, CT:
William3 (William2, Edward1) BARKER, Jr. 1701-1744 b. Branford, CT. m. Abigail FRISBIE , daughter of Ebenezer and Mary (HARRINGTON) FRISBIE. William was a farmer, but became insane before his death, and selectmen were ordered to look after his estate. All children born at Branford, CT.
![]() Samuel4 (William3, William2, Edward1)BARKER, 6 Aug 1739-1807, m. 27 Nov 1760, Lucy LEETE, daughter of Samuel and Hannah (GRAVES) LEETE. Captain Samuel BARKER commanded a company in 6th. Connecticut Continental Regiment, retired by consolidation 1778, in 1779 commanded the gunboat "New Defense" on the Sound. He was a member of the General Assembly in 1779. About 1793, Samuel BARKER came to Vermont and lived in Tinmouth, Rutland County. Samuel was given 300 acres in Poultney, VT for his Revolutionary War service. Samuel is buried in Sawyer Cemetery, Tinmouth, VT. Children, born at Branford, CT:
Pitman5 (Samuel4, William3, William2, Edward1) BARKER, 5 Jul 1772-1832, m. Lydia RUDD, daughter of Increase and Bathsheba (JOHNSON) RUDD. Lydia was born in 1776 in Middletown, VT. Pitman and Lydia moved to Poultney, VT about 1820.
Julia Ann6 (Pitman5,Samuel4,William3, William2, Edward1) BARKER was born 8 Jun 1821-21 Oct 1870, married 31 Jan 1842, Albert Cyrus HOWE, 27 Aug 1821-31 Dec 1906. Julia BARKER HOWE died in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Albert HOWE died in Shell, Wyoming.
Justus, Eastus, Julia, Alice and Jaasaniah and almost all of their respective families moved to Wisconsin circa 1852. They lived in Walworth Co.
