Interviews
with Former Students
1. she told me that
she left Rutgers
when she was a freshman. She was an undeclared major and
decided to
enroll at Camden County College in the NJSTARS program. When
i asked her what things RUC could have done to make things better for
her, she
had a couple of suggestions. She said that she was unhappy with
her
advisor and did not like how her classes were picked for her, also she
said
that she really did not like the whole parking idea. She said
that she
was afraid to walk to school and was often late to classes because of
the wait
for the shuttle bus.
I did most of my
calls in the late afternoon early evening,
always before nine o’clock.
I had a great response from everyone who answered the phone. When
I was
unable to reach a student the parent offered to help, because she knew
all of
the circumstances surrounding the student leaving Rutgers.
One of my student interviews left because he failed out even after Rutgers
gave him all kinds of chances. One other student had to leave do
to
financial reasons and didn’t feel that there was anything that Rutgers
could do to help. The final interview that I conducted was with a
student
who left to attend Devry University because they offer an accelerated program.
2.My first
respondentwas just taking a year off, and planned to return to Rutgers.
She had only completed about two semesters, and she needed time off for
work.
She didn't have any suggestions or negative opinions about Rutgers,
and welcomed a return.
3. My Second
respondent left Rutgers
for
personal reasons. He had only completed 18 credits, and his father said
that he
"withdrew indefintely, was not coming back this year or probably even
next
year, and the decision was all on his son". His father pretty much
stated
it had to do with grades, and he was probably just done with school.
4. My most
helpful
and most descriptive respondent was my third respondent, who stopped
attending Rutgers
in Fall of 2006 with 74 credits. She said her dad withdrew from Rutgers
because he was really sick, and that she needed be there for him. She
also
works full time, and began attending University
of Phoenix
in Philadelphia
as it was more flexible with her work schedule. When asked if Rutgers
could've done anything more to help things better for you, she said not
really
since the main reason she left was because of her fathers illness. As
for
suggestions, she referred to scheduling, stating that Rutgers-Camden
needs more
flexibility. This includes more night classes or anything that could
help with
students that work full time.
5. I was only able to get one interview
unfortunately. This one
person was going to Rutgers to be a teacher, but things didn't go the direction
he wanted
them to. When asked why he stopped attending Rutgers, he
replied that he couldn't deal with classes. Also, he is currently not
taking
classes elsewhere and hasn't since leaving Rutgers. He
didn't feel that Rutgers could've done anything better for him, and he just
thought that
classes were heading in a bad direction. I assume this means grades
weren't
good, but I didn't get much more out of him. For the final question, I
asked
him if he had any suggestions and he answered no. All he had to say was
that
everyone but him seem to like the classes they had.
6. The first
respondent was a male who left after attending Rutgers
part time for about two years. He said he left because of the money and
that he
could not afford only attending school part time and working. He was
having a
hard time "making ends meet." He continued his education at another
institution that he did not wish to disclose for some reason. His only
suggestion for RUC was that he felt the Office of Student Affairs was
very
unwelcoming and stand offish. He went there numerous times for
different
reasons and was dissatisfied. Other than that, he loved the campus and
teachers
and wished he did not have to leave.
7. The second
respondent was a female who started at RUC as an undeclared major. She
knew
that college was going to be expensive so she started at RUC to save
some money
until she decided on a major. When she finally decided on her desired
major
(civil engineering) she left after only a year and decided to bite the
bullet
and take out loans. She transferred to Drexel. She said that she had no
complaints about RUC and that it served the purpose she needed it to.
The three
respondents that completed my survey reported three different reasons
for
leaving Rutgers University-Camden.
8. The first respondent, number 612564, said that his reasons for
leaving the
University were personal.
9. The second respondent, number 586657, said she left the University
"because you guys cost to much money".
10. For my third respondent, number 3816101, I was able to reach
his
mother who said that he left the University to join the United States
Army.
When I asked my first respondent if he has taken any college classes
anywhere
else since leaving Rutgers,
he
said, "I took classes in Georgia".
I then asked which college in Georgia
and he responded, “ Well, that’s personal too.â€ The first respondent
got
angry when I asked her my second question and hung up on me. My third
respondent said that he did not take any classes because he went
straight to
the army. When I asked my first respondent if there was any thing that Rutgers
could have done better, and if he had any suggestions he said that
“every thing
was pretty good”. My third respondent said that he de was disappointed
in the
quality of the education and that “it was not as academic as his
previous
college”.. After further questioning I found out that his previous
college was Washington
College
in Maryland.
11. The first
former student said he left Rutgers
because it did not offer a major he was interested in. Since leaving he
took
clases at Camden
County.
Overall, he said he had a good time at Rutgers
but said there weren't a variety of classes to take. He suggested RU-C
should
open up more majors and classes, like business, medical and art.
12. The second
person I interviewed said he left Rutgers
because they didn't have the major he wanted. He has been taking
classes at Temple
because they have the major he is interested in. He didn't think Rutgers
could have done anything to make things better for him because he
really liked
it here. He also said there is nothing he would change about RU-C and
again
stated that he really liked it a lot.
13. The
Respondent was a female who was trying to get into the Nursing Program
at Rutgers
but wasnt successful. She transferred to Camden
County College
instead. She thinks if Rutgers
made it easier to get into the Nursing Program and if Rutgers
had better guidence that would make things better for Rutgers.
She also thinks a decrease in the tuition would help also.
14. The first
person I spoke to left RU in 2006 with 99 credits. He said
that
money, got burned out, and didn't get a direct answer from the advising
office
which class he needed to take are the reasons why he stopped attending
RU.
He said that parking facility could have done better for students in
terms of
affordability.
15. The second
person left RU to transfer to Rowan
University
simply because it is closer to her home. She had no complain
about RU,
she like the school, and the shuttle is very convenient.
The three
people
that I interviewed were all women that attended Rutgers.
T16. he first stopped attending Rutgers
because she got married and eventually moved away. Since leaving Rutgers,
she has attended Rowan
University
also. She enjoyed her stay at Rutgers,
but she felt that they should improve on there inconvient
parking.
17. The second student stopped attending Rutgers
because they didn't have her major. Since leaving she has attended the
Art
Institute of Philadelphia. She felt that Rutgers
needed to better there staff during her stay. She thought they could of
been
more helpful towards her needs.
18. They last women I interviewed stopped attending Rutgers
also because they didn't have her major. Since leaving, she has
attended Camden
County.
She felt Rutgers would
be better
if they had a bigger nursing program, which was her major. She liked Rutgers
alot, she just thinks they they would be better if they had a bigger
nursing
program.
19. Only one
survey was completed. The former student with the identification
3590534. She
replied when asked why she had stopped attending Rutgers-Cmd that she
could not
wake up for her classes. Since leaving Rutgers
she has been attending another college, Florida
Metropolitan
University,
where she takes classes online. She did not reply to the question about
what
Rutgers Camden might have done to make things better for her nor did
she reply
to having any suggestions for Rutgers Camden.
20.
Respondent. was two credits shy of being a junior at Rutgers-Camden and
then
his parents got a divorce. They split up three ways and he ended up in Florida
with his cousins. He is trying to pay off all his bills right now
and
when he gets them paid off he plans on enrolling at Florida
Gulf Coast
University
for a semester and majoring in Nursiing. After his semester is over he
plans on
moving back to New Jersey
and enrolling in Rutgers- Camden Nursing program. He loved Rutgers-
Camden but
his main concern involved Foreign teachers because he couldn't
understand what
they are saying. His only suggestion for Rutgers-Camden was to work on
parking
lot 7. He stated that the transportation from Lot
7 to the Campus
Center
wasn't fast enough. Other then that he loved Rutgers-Camden and misses
it a
lot.
21. This previous Rutgers
student stopped attending Rutgers
University
due to being expelled for attaining a low GPA. Student claims he
"slacked
off and was unsure of the path he wanted to take," therefore didn't do
so
well in his classes. However, since leaving Rutgers
he has and is still taking courses in Paterson's
Community College, located in Paterson,
New Jersey.
His major is now psychology. He believes that the student
advisers/counselors weren't so supportive of the students. He
feels as
though Rutgers staff
should
play more of a role in students lives. He says that "they should have a
stronger support system for freshmen and sophomores. Help them become
more
aware of courses, grades, college life, etc." He states that
he
understands it was his own fault concerning his grades but that he was
not
prepared for college and that if he would have had a better
support
system from the faculty then maybe this would not have happened.
#4483853: 22. Left Rutgers
camden
to attend Camden
County
and is reapplying after he gets his degree and believes has no
suggestions for
Rutgers Camden.
#4499865: 23. Left for personal reasons, has not
taken
college classes anywhere else and has nothing tosay about
improving Rutgers
camden
because he likes it already.
4685601 was not home on my first attempt, however I was able to
speak with
his mother.
[not included in the statistics because he is still attending Rutgers]
When asked," Why did they stop attending Rutgers Camden"? His mother
said," her son is still attending the university and has for four
years". Have he taken college classes anywhere else? Mother,"
Since B.C.C he's been working on his Bachelor Degree at Rutgers".

my
first semester its more convenient for me, I'm taken Business Classes".

there anything that Rutgers Camden might have done to make things
better for
you? Answer," No. It was my choose, the school didn't do anything".Do

25. n 11-18-2007 , on
the telephone
i interviewed , id number 4737869. I spoke to his mom because he was in
the
shower and she said she can answer my questions. His mom said he was
commuting
120 miles everyday. Commuting was causing Physical , psychological and
academic
stress on him. He will apply to another college which is colser . Mom
said at
the New Brunwich , since it will be less commute. On 11-18-2007, on the
telephone i interviewed, id number 4755048.
26 I spoke to his father because his son was away to college. His
father said his son tranferred to Penn
State
technical collge since Rutgers
did not offer the major he wanted .
27. At first I felt uncomfortable making this phone call and
asking
someone I never talked to some questions about their past, but I sucked
it up
and made the call. When the person answered I asked if 5013513
was
available and he responded with a stern “no” I could tell that
this
person did not want to talk to me, as he asked impatiently who I was,
and where
I was calling. I quickly told him that I was calling from Rutgers
University,
and the tension was uplifted. I asked if it was ok if I asked him
a few
questions regarding 5013513’s past attendance at Rutgers
University, and he said
“sure no
problem. When I asked why 5013513 stopped attending Rutgers
University,
he told me for personal reasons, and without me prying; he told me that
5013513
had a child. He then tried to assure me that it wasn’t anything
against Rutgers
University;
he even said that it was a great institution to get your education
from, but
since she was going to be having a baby it wasn’t practical for her to
attend. I then asked if 5013513 was attending school now and he
told me
yes, 5013513 is attending University of Phoenix, which is an online
University
that allows students to complete a degree without having to go to a
campus for
class. He then told me that 5013513 is still undecided about
they’re
major, and is taking mostly general education classes. He didn’t
have any
suggestions for Rutgers
University,
and went on to say that it is a great school; it just wasn’t working
out for
5013513. I thanked him for his time, and he wished me luck.
28. I spoke to the father of student 5639914. He left the
university
to join the army. He has not been able to take college courses here or
elsewhere since because of his comitments in the military. He suggests
that
rutgers should offer internet courses like other colleges to make it
easier for
students who have full time jobs to finish their coursework.
29. I finally reached a mother of one former student, #5702846. The
mother
stated that her son was away at Art
School,
in New York.
I forgot to ask the name of the School. The mother did state that Rugers
did not
have the major that her son needed. I intended to reach another student
for
extra credit but didn't have any luck.
30. The interview was completed with the
former
student's father because the son was at his current university, The
College of
New Jersey. When the father was asked why his son stopped
attending Rutgers
University
(Camden),
the father stated that he was not positively sure, however, he just
"went
along with the program." Also, the father asked his son many times to
stay
enrolled at Rutgers-Camden, but the son felt he was making
the right
move. The father also stated that the son did not necessarily
have a
problem with the curriculum at Rutgers- Camden, and although he was
currently
unsure of his son's major, he does not recollect his son changing it at
his new
university. Finally, when the father of this student was asked if
there
was anything he knew of that would make his son's experience at
Rutgers-Camden
a more positive one, the father replied: "Honestly, my son always felt
that Rutgers-Camden was not as good as going to Rutgers-New
Brunswick. I
told him that it was the same university, and I didn't care whether it
was
Rutgers-Camden or Rutgers-new Brunswick,
it was still Rutgers,
but my son
felt that everybody thinks of Camden
as being less."
31. She unfortunately stopped attending Rutgers
Camden,
because she changed her major to Finance. Although Rutgers
offers this major, she informed me that the situation was complicated,
and she
would have to have completed different prerequisite if she would have
continued
at Rutgers. She
decided to
transfer to a business school that would allow her to complete her
major
faster.Upon leaving Rutgers she said she also attended College of New
Jersey
and Burlington County College. She did not say whether she is
still there
or not. - She did not have one negative thing to say about
Rutgers
Camden. She felt it was a "pretty good school." She also
informed me that she plans on returning to Rutgers
sometime in the near future. - The only thing suggestion she had
for Rutgers
was to offer online classes. I am not aware if the school does or
not,
but overall she was very satisfied with her experience at Rutgers,
she was simply more interested in getting her career goals accomplished
in a
timely fashion.
I completed two interviews with numbers 6030040
and 6038124.
32. During my first interview I was able to speak to the mother
of the
former student. She was able to answer as to why the former student
stopped
attending Rutgers. The
student
expected more from college and wanted to make more friends. Therefore,
the
student decided to leave and go to Arizona
University,
away from home. As the mom said “He just wanted to go away for
college.
Apparently, there was nothing Rutgers Camden could have done in order
to keep
this student. There were no recommendations proposed for
Rutgers-Camden. They
were very happy with the choice their child has made.
33. In the second interview I was able to speak to the actual former
student
itself. It appeared that this student is still a student in Rutgers,
but in New Brunswick.
The reason for leaving was the fact that Rutgers-Camden did not offer
the major
wanted. The major in question was pharmacy. Rutgers-New Brunswick has
the
pharmacy school, where Rutgers-Camden does not. Therefore, this student
said
that Rutgers-Camden could have made things better if there was an
offering of
this major, since it appeared that Camden
is a more convenient location than New
Brunswick. The
suggestion the
student offered was to open a pharmacy school in Rutgers-Camden.
34. 6444311 She stopped attending Rutgers Camden when she
moved out of
the state. She has not gone to any other colleges since leaving RU-C.
She
couldn't think of any way Rutgers
could have made things better for her. She can't think of any
suggestions for
Rutgers Camden.
35. 6457133 She stopped attending Rutgers Camden when she had
a baby.
She has not gone to any other colleges since she left RU-C. She
couldn't think
of anything Rutgers
could have
done to improve her time on campus. She didn't have any suggestions for
Rutgers
Camden. She thinks RU-C is a great school and plans on coming back for
classes
soon. 6514688 He
36 The first successful interview that I conducted was with
respondent
number 6551092. When asked why the respondent stopped attending Rutgers
Camden
they stated that there was a change in their financial situation, they
could no
longer afford the tuition, and they were unable to receive financial
aide. They
are currently attending classes at Camden
County College,
but did not want to disclose what major or courses they are pursuing,
stating
that they were in a rush. They also said that they had no suggestions
for
Rutgers Camden.
37. I had another successful interview with respondent
number
6575849. They also stated that they had to stop taking classes at
Rutgers
Camden for financial reasons. This person is not attending classes
anywhere
else but whats to return to Rutgers Camden as soon as their finances
improve.
The only thing that they stated Rutgers Camden could have done to make
things
better was to improve financial aide. They also suggested that there
should be
tuition discounts for a high grade point average. stopped attending
Rutgers
Camden because he had Financial Aid "issues". He has been going to Burlington
County College
since leaving RU-C. He could think of anything Rutgers
could have done to make his time there better. He had no suggestions
for
Rutgers Camden, and plans to come back to finish his education here.
38. I called and the respondent said to call back so I did. When
asked
why he stopped attending Rutgers
he replied that he did not stop for good, but that he is working
because
he needs more money to pay for his next semester. He is an
international
student from Gambia
and claims that the tuition is too expensive. He has not attended any
other
schools in the meantime and plans to come back to Rutgers
once he gets enough money. He also suggests that Rutgers
offer cheaper tuition for international students.
39. My second attempt to contact 7847956 took place on
Sunday Nov. 18th which turned out to be more
successful. After I identified myself and explained the
nature of
the call the respondent simply stated that she had stopped attending
school for
personal reasons. After her admission I did not feel the
need
to encourage a more indepth explaination so I politely
thanked
her for her time and proceeded to end the conversation. However,
before
the call ended the respondent did express to me that she
understood that I
was a student fullfilling an obligation but she was not totally
comfortable discussing her personal business with me and she does not
expect to
be questioned about the matter any further and hopes that this will be
the last
phone call of this nature.
40 Saturday November 17th 2:57 I briefly spoke to
respondent
7877123 in which she became extremely agitated after I explained the
nature of
the call. She too stopped attending school for personal
reasons and
that this phone call was at a bad time(crying kids in the
backround). I did manage to thank her for her time before she
hung up the
phone in my ear.
41. Saturday November 17th 3:01 pm I called respondent
7904263
and spoke with his mother. Our conversation lasted for 3 minutes
and it
was the most disappointing, successfull and informative of them
all.
After introducing myself the mother eagerly began the conversation with
7904263
was not at home but was at work and could she be of some
assistance. I
could hear the disappointment in her voice when she told me that
7904263 was no
longer in school because of his grades and that she hopes he will one
day get
himself together and re-enroll in school but for now he has to at least
keep a
job. Mrs. ? was very easy going and talkative and if I had more
time to
devote to our conversation she would have provided me with all sorts of
information concerning 7904263.
42. On Saturday November 17th, 2007
at 3:35pm
I called and spoke to
respondent #7950002. I notified her of who I was and what the
survey was
for. I also notified the respondent that all the answers would be
anonymous and used only for a statistical report. I also notified
the
respondent that they do not need to answer any question and that they
may stop
at any time. She stopped attending Rutgers Camden because they
did not
have convenient classes for her major, which was Nursing and
Psychology.
She needed to take night classes. Since leaving Rutgers Camden
she is now
currently attending Camden
County College,
her major is Nursing. When asked if there was anything Rutgers
Camden
might have done to make things better, she stated that there needs to
be more
convenient class times specifically night classes. Because she
needed to
take night classes, she felt scared to go to classes because there
wasn't
enough security and too many detours, because of construction, leading
away
from campus. The respondent suggested that Rutgers Camden have
more
events on campus and that the campus didn't feel like college, it felt
like
high school. The interview ended and was completed at 3:43pm.
43. She stopped
attending Rutgers Camden because one
of her biology classes didn’t transfer to Rutgers.
Someone from Students Affair told her that she needs to take that class
all
over again, she refused to do that, and left. She is at Drexel
University
right now. She still doesn’t like Rutgers Camden.
8346685
44 He
stopped attending Rutgers Camden because he thought
college wasn’t for him. When I asked him is there anything that
Rutgers
Camden might have done to make things better for you, he told me that
he wishes
the classes were easier.
8294578
45
She stopped attending Rutgers Camden because of her personal
reasons. She
has not taken any college classes anywhere else. She likes
Rutgers
Camden, but for personal reasons she can not attend school right
now.
Right now she has two jobs that she is focusing on. She says she
might
come back but doesn’t know when.
46. The first number was student 8634746 in which i spoke
with her
mother. in the case of her, the only information that the mother
would
give to me was that she was no longer in the area.
47 Therefore, I went to the next getting a hold of student
8679100
where she informed me that she loved Rutgers and she enjoyed her campus
life
but left to attend Jefferson because she was able to finish a year
earlier
there then if she stayed at Rutgers therefore concluded that she just
wanted to
finish her schooling faster. During the interview the student
just
skipped over her major (i asked and she seemed to just keep passing it
by) and
went on about how much she liked our campus at Rutgers Camden.
The
students gave a pretty good review and had not suggestions for the
campus. She was basically partial to all that we do at Rutgers
Camden and
just wanted to finish faster.
48 he first respondent 897185 said that she stopped going to Rutgers
Camden
because she changed her major. She told me since she has left she
is now
attending a technical school for message therapy. She said there
was
nothing Rutgers could
have done
to make things better because she wanted to go to technical school
instead. She had no suggestion for Rutgers Camden.
49. The second respondent 8970359 respond was different he stopped
attending
Rutgers for personal
reasons and
did not want to be asked anymore question then hung up.
50. For this interview I was able to reach the former student in the
afternoon of November 26th. The student agreed to my questioning
answered very
candidly. Student said his reasoning for leaving Rutgers Camden was
because
"the administration sucks". He claimed he got no help from the dean
or from the administration. He gave a specific example he said that
while he
was attending Rutgers he
was a
criminal justice major and one time during the registration period he
went to
the advisors office for help and he was told to basically figure it out
on his
own. He told me that he is now a nursing major at Gloucester
County College
and enjoys it thoroughly. His suggestion for Rutgers
was for a more personal experience between student and the
administration. He
said that for a small campus he expected a more personal experience. He
claimed
that had he had a better experience and more help from the advisors he
might
have stayed. He said he loved the professors thought they were great
and that
it was just that one issue in his mind that was the schools major flaw.
Consequently he also noted that perhaps lower tuition and increasing
the
parking would have helped but the advising problems where the major
draw back
in his mind.
51. I called twelve numbers, but only 2 were successful. The
first
successful interview was of code number 9760977. This former Rutgers
student was more than pleased to answer my questions. I asked him why
he
stopped attending Rutgers- Camden and he replied that he transferred to
another
school. I asked him what school is he currently going to and he said
that he's currently attending Columbia
University
in New York.
I asked him what he was majoring in and he said that hes currently
attending
the School
of General Studies
at Columbia
which is a pre-medical program. I then asked him if there was anything
that
Rutgers- Camden could have done to make things better for him and he
quickly
replied "no". Finally I asked him if there were any suggestions that
he has for Rutgers Camden and he laughed and replied "Hire back
Dr.
Duran from the Chemistry Department" I thanked him for his time and
cooperation and was glad that I at least had one completed interview.
52. The second successful interview was of code number 83104322.
I reached the mother of this person and she said that the phone
number I
just called belonged to her. I tried to encourage her to take the
interview
with for her son. She refused to do so. I asked her if there was
another number
where I could reach her son she quickly replied no and then told me
that his
reasons for leaving Rutgers
were
very personal and she would rather not talk about it. I then thanked
her for
her time and hung up. I count this interview as successful because I
was able
to talk to a person.
53. he interview started out with a brief introduction: "Hi, my name
is
Ben and I'm doing research for one of my classes at Rutgers Camden.
We're
interested in figuring out why former students did not return. This
interview
will only take a moment of your time and all questions are optional."
The
respondent, the student's father, said, "But I'm not the student." I
said, "It's okay, we can get the information second-hand." He then
asked, "How long will this take?" I said, "Not long, maybe a few
minutes. There's only 4 questions."
The interview then proceeded as follows:
Q: First of all, why did this student stop attending Rutgers Camden?
A: He was not able to continue in the pharmacy program.
Q: Since leaving, has this student taken college classes anywhere else?
Where
A: Yes, he's attending Harrisburg
Area Community
College.
Q: Has he decided on a major?
A: Not yet.
Q: Is there anything that Rutgers Camden might have done to make things
better
for this student?

54 Respondent number 6291596 is not a former Rutgers Student.
However,
the respondent is no longer taking classes. She could still register
through
the registrar. Currently she is looking into Temple
University's
Italian program. Rutgers Camden is unable to offer her an Italian
major, and so
she is looking elsewhere. In the past, she has taken night classes.
But, due to
the rotation of classes she has been unable to find classes she needs
in order
to graduate. She suggests Rutgers Camden implements some sort of
Italian
program similar to Rutgers New Brunswick
and Newark.

stopped.

any
suggestions for Rutgers Camden. The respondent did not have much to
say, so
this was all I was able to gather from our interview.

57. I made all of my phone calls on November
11 and 12,
2007. I began between 4:00pm and 4:30pm on both days. Out of all the phone calls I
made, only two
individuals were available to complete the survey. Two of the
provided
numbers had be disconnected. One of the students was not
available
because he is away at boot camp for the military. Another student
answered, but was at work and could not complete the survey with me at
that
time. Some went to voice mail and with the rest, parents answered
the
phone stating their child was not at home at the time. Both of
the
students that completed the survey were very obliging. They left
for the
same reason, however. 58 Both young men stopped attending
Rutgers
Camden because they needed to take time off to work in order to save
money to
pay for school. 59 One of them later took some class at Camden County College. Both also stated that there was nothing they
felt Rutgers
could have done to aid them in their situations and did not provide and
further
suggestions for the University. Both of them plan on returning to
Rutgers
Camden in the near future.
60 2892236 was burned out and did not get direct
answers
from his advisor, as well as having money problems. He liked the
school,
but would like for it to have been easier to confirm which classes to
take. He would like more affordable parking, but he did not stop
because
he didn't like RU.
61 370015 transferred to Rowan
because it was
a few minutes closer to his home. She liked Rutgers and
thought the parking shuttle was convenient.

left Rutgers
for a number of reasons. He first states how the tuition was too
much to
bare at the time he also says he has not been able to find the time to
take
classes at any other institution. But the ultimate reason and
number one
suggestion for rutgers to improve was to offer more night
classes. He was
in the Teaachers Preperation program and there were no late classes to
accomidate a person who has to work during the day.
63. I also contacted another former rutgers student who is currently
taking
classes at Thomas Edison majoring in accounting. She states Rutgers
was not very helpful in giving her information on what credits from a
previous
university would be accepted. She also states that Rutgers could have
improved
her situation and the overall university by offering more assistance
and
information on transfer credits, and allowing work or internships
within your
major to count toward you degree.

68. When receiving my names and numbers, there was one name of a former
classmate of mine that I recognized. We were already friends on a
social networking website called Facebook, so I asked him for his cell
phone number on there. He told me that the number provided on the
sheet from class was his home phone number, but he was not living at
home anymore.
When I asked him his reason for no longer attending Rutgers Camden he
told me it was because he preferred to go to a Christian school.
He is currently taking college classes at Liberty
University.
His suggestion for Rutgers was to hire less
professors
who had strong
foreign accents. He had trouble learning when he couldn't understand
what was being said.
He had no further suggestions for Rutgers Camden."

reasons for
leaving Rutgers but stated that the undergrad
admissions
and financial aid offices were both unorganized and the cost played a
small
role. The respondent stated that taking time off from all classes is
the best
bet for now since there is personal issues to address. The respondent

upset. She said she was a liberal arts major before she switched
but now
she is an education major.

expensive. Decided to go back to county for a while. Not

she didn't want to give any more money to Rutgers
U. Pretty upset and
ended up
cutting the conversation short.
72. The names of the people to interview that i was given did not
help me
complete the interviews. None of the people I called answered the phone
and in
some cases the phone was disconnected. Therefore I had to call a family
member
who dropped out of Rutgers. She dropped out
because she
felt that the teachers and councilors did not care about how she did in
school
and only cared about getting her money. She suggested that Rutgers
improve by making sure the councilors and teachers were more accesible
and
friendly, and that they cared about how you do in school.
73. interviewedX's father for this assignment. He said that X
stopped
attending Rutgers Camden because he needed to do his student teaching
and
wasn't informed by the school, of when his student teaching would take
place.
He also said that since leaving, his son has not attended any other
institution
since leaving. In the father's opinion better communication with
the
students and parents would have made the experience better. However,
the father
believes that his son may have been lying

attending
Rutgers Camden because it was too hard for him. He said that
working and
going to school full time was very hard for him that he had to give up

college
taking two classes at a time. He likes Rutgers
and he is looking forward to coming back.
75. The first interview was of code number 74
207734. She
was more then happy to complete a survey with me. I asked her why
she
stopped attending Rutgers and she replied that
she
wasn't accepted into Rutgers-Camden's nursing Program. I then asked her
if
she's currently taking classes anywhere else she said that shes
currently
attending Jefferson University
and is enrolled in their nursing program. I asked her if there
was
anything Rutgers could have done to make things
better
for her and she said that the nursing program at Rutgers Camden should
accept
more students so less people have to find alternative schools to go to
after
they are already attending Rutgers. I asked her
if she
had any suggestions and she restated that Rutgers
should
enroll more students in their specialized programs.
76. The final interview
tool
place with code number 75 5282819. I was also unable to reach
this
student, but I was able to speak to her mother. She was also more then
happy to
complete the survey with me. I asked her why her daughter stopped
attending
Rutgers- Camden and she said that her daughter was a pharmacy major and
decided
to go to pharmacy school elsewhere. I asked her where her daughter was
currently attending pharmacy school and she said that her daughter was
attending pharmacy school at Temple
University.
I asked her if there was anything Rutgers could
have done
to make things better for her daughter and she said that Rutgers
is a wonderful school and that she has another child currently
attending
Rutgers- Camden. She said if her daughter could have completed her
major
at Rutgers Camden without needing to transfer she still would be there.

her if she had any suggestions for Rutgers and
she said
that she didn't and that Rutgers is a great
school.
77. The second successful interview took
place
with code number 63 8282985. I was unable to speak to the
student,but I
was able to talk to his mother and she said she would gladly take the
survey,
but she wasn't sure she could answer all the questions. I told her to
try to
the best of her ability to answer them. I asked her why her son left Rutgers
-Camden and she replied
that her
son didn't feel comfortable at Rutgers. I asked
her what
she meant by that and she said she wasn't sure if he was uncomfortable
with
being in Camden or
uncomfortable in
the classrooms but all she knew if that he wasn't comfortable attending
Rutgers
any more. I asked her if her son was taking college classes any where
else and
she said that after Rutgers he went to Gloucester
County College
and is now attending Rowan University
for Criminal Justice. I asked her if there was anything Rutgers
could have done to make things better for her son and she said that she
wasn't
sure and that her son would have to answer that question. I asked her
if she
had any suggestions for Rutgers and she said
that she
