Extra Credit Assignment on the
Ethics of Research with Human Subjects
This assignment will count as two
extra 100% assignment scores. To get extra credit, you must pass
the Rutgers University Human Subjects Certification Program. This
is required for anyone actually doing research with human subjects at
Rutgers. It includes some of the general principles we are
covering in our chapter, but also some specific Rutgers rules and
regulations. The program is
explained here.
To be certified you must pass a multiple choice test in SAKAI.
The test is NOT on our course's SAKAI page, it is on a special page
operated by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. That
SAKAI page also includes the material you need to study to pass the
test. Sign
up for this SAKAI page here. This will be an additional
course on your SAKAI home page.
To pass, you need to take the test which is listed under Tests and
Quizzes on the left. You can learn the material you need by
reading the material posted in Resources. When you get 80% or
more on the test, you will have passed. Do not worry about
getting more than 80%, I will give you credit for 100 points so long as
you pass.
Some students have passed this before in other classes. To get
extra credit this semester, you need to take the test again and pass it
again. Think of it as a refresher.
Once you have passed the text, copy it into the clipboard, save it in a
Word file, and email it to me. Or print it out and bring it to
class on December 13. Also click on the link for "print
human subjects certificate". Print the certificate and bring it
to class on paper on December 13. There will be no
extensions. It may take a day or two for the site to be
updated, so be sure to do it a few days in advance. NO EXCUSES
WILL BE ACCEPTED IF YOU DO NOT PASS THE TEST BY DECEMBER 10.
