(Sep 4, 2007) Does anyone live on campus?
- Rachel Negro
(Sep 4, 2007) I actually transfered from Catholic University
after I changed my major. CUA didn't offer criminal justice.
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 4, 2007) It was close and the class times worked well with
work
- Kirk Groomes
(Sep 4, 2007) Why did people choose RU-Camden instead of RU-New
Brunswick?
- Chase Komer
(Sep 4, 2007) Is anyone thinking about going to another school?
- Tammy Jones

wouldn't pay for school unless I stayed in state.
- Timothy Johnson
(Sep 4, 2007) Parking is an issue I would like to see changed.
- Kristy Loringer
(Sep 4, 2007)
I was originally a NB student but transferred here due to the large
size of classes up there and the difficulty to register
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 4, 2007) I only had two options.. it was Rutgers Camden or
Rowan and Rutgers had more to offer.
- James Olivo
(Sep 4, 2007) Does anyone ever feel unsafe going to school in
Camden?
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 4, 2007)
How does everybody feel about having to take general and major
requirement along with any other classes you feel like to meet the 120
credits you need to graduate?
- Ashli Williams
(Sep 4, 2007) I would like to see more campus activities
- Rachel Negro
(Sep 4, 2007) I feel perfectly safe here. I've never had a
problem
- Chase Komer
(Sep 4, 2007) To tell you the truth, not really
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 4, 2007)
I came because it is close to the school my finance's school in
Philadelphia and it is a NJ school that offers the NJ stars program.
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 4, 2007) The night class I took over the Summer was pretty
scary. I take the speedline which is a couple of blocks to walk.
- James Olivo
(Sep 4, 2007) Yea same here
- Timothy Johnson
(Sep 4, 2007) I feel safe
- Scott Anderson
(Sep 4, 2007) No. It's a pretty safe area. Pretty well
segregated from the bad parts.
- Ashli Williams
(Sep 4, 2007) its not that bad
- Maria Tere Barrett
(Sep 4, 2007) Does anyone here major in marketing?
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 4, 2007)
I'm in school to become an Elementary Teacher, and I heard that Rowans
Program for teachers was hard to get into and I had friends that went
to Rutgers Camden and they all had good things to say about Rutgers.
- Cortney Lawrence
(Sep 4, 2007) See Ya.
- Cortney Lawrence
(Sep 4, 2007) Prof. said after you ask your question and answer
another you can leave..
- James Olivo
(Sep 4, 2007) Does anyone know what they've been building for
the past 2 and 1/2 years?
- Chase Komer
(Sep 4, 2007) well im heading out ill see ya on thursday..
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 4, 2007) That's funny, I heard the opposite! I have a lot
of friends in the Rowan teaching program bc they didn't like Rutger's.
- Rachel Negro
(Sep 4, 2007) Do you feel like Rutgers-Camden has prepared you
to be able to find a job upon graduation?
- Kristy Loringer
(Sep 4, 2007) Bye
- Maria Tere Barrett
(Sep 4, 2007) What do you like the least about Camden Campus?
- James Olivo
(Sep 4, 2007) yes
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 4, 2007) With the help of my major advisor, Dr. Meloy, yes.
- James Olivo
(Sep 4, 2007) the construction
- Ashli Williams
(Sep 4, 2007) how do you feel about campus life?
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 4, 2007) I don't participate in it
- Timothy Johnson
(Sep 4, 2007) how would you define "campus life"
- Rachel Negro
(Sep 4, 2007) I missed the whole college atmosphere from my old
school but joining the crew team made it alot better
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 4, 2007) Bye...
- Ashli Williams
(Sep 4, 2007) what do you think would get more students to
participate in campus activities?\
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 4, 2007) I would like to know if anyone else had to choose
between Rutgers and Rowan and why they picked Rutgers instead.
- Maria Tere Barrett
(Sep 4, 2007) I don't like the parking area, that yuopu have to
walk few blocks or take the shuttle to get into your class.
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 4, 2007) Has anyone noticed a difference in the experiences
between transfer students and students coming right out of high school?
- Scott Anderson
(Sep 4, 2007) Does anyone work full time as well as being a full
time student? Is it hard keeping up in school?
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 4, 2007) Yes, I don't have time to participate in the
Campus life. :(
- Ted Goertzel
(Sep 4, 2007)
When you answer a question, it would be a good idea to mention the
person's name. Otherwise, if you say "yes" it isn't clear who you are
answering.
- Maria Tere Barrett
(Sep 4, 2007) Nice chatting with everyone, see you in the next
class.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 4, 2007) I wish the Parking lot was closer to the campus,
But its not that big of a deal to take the shuttle or walk..
- Timothy Johnson
(Sep 4, 2007) It is not hard if you know how to manage time
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 4, 2007)
I work two jobs and I am a full time student. Scott, sometimes it gets
a bit overwhelming. But the bills don't pay themselves! :)
- Ted Goertzel
(Sep 4, 2007) When you leave, you should Logout of SAKAI, that
way we will know who is still here.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 4, 2007)
Amber, I havent notice a difference in the Transfer students and the
Students right out of highschool that attend here.. but i also never
really looked into it either.
- Scott Anderson
(Sep 4, 2007)
Amber, personally as a transfer student, I came to Rutgers with a sole
purpose to collect a degree. I think many people coming out of high
school like to experience the college life right away and then get
serious later.
- Timothy Johnson
(Sep 4, 2007) Does anyone plan to transfer out of Camden or
leave before obtaining a degree?
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 4, 2007)
The first semister I came to Rutgers, I decided it was going to be
harder than a County College.. haha.. so I decided to be a nanny so i
can make up my own schedule so I can concentrate on my studies.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 4, 2007) Timothy, No, I'm a senior and i graduate in May
and I plan on staying to obtain my degree
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 4, 2007)
Thanks.. I was more looking for your experience when it comes to
dealing with the offices and transfers of credits and those types of
things..I have had a few problems since I started and I have heard some
horror stories from other transfer students as well..
- Kirk Groomes
(Sep 4, 2007)
I transferred from Lehigh University after experiencing
difficulty/reluctance to cope with the different social life of the
student body there. Chose RU because I heard was a good school, from
both teachers and students. Then I decided on RU-Camden because I could
commute from home.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 4, 2007)
between Rutgers and Rowan.... Rutgers accepted more of my credits, That
was a main reason I chose Rutgers instead of Rowan.
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 4, 2007)
Tim, I am planning on getting My B.A. here I already have my A.S in
Culinary Arts from ACCC so I am not looking to transfer again. I am
even thinking about getting my master here..if I can my firm to pay for
it
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 4, 2007)
My cousins are teachers for Highschool and they have Student teachers
from Rowan in their classes and they have said that everyone of them
were unprepared and unorganized.. But I'm not sure if that was just a
couple people and their personalities or because Rowan didnt prepare
them ...
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 4, 2007) I chose Rutgers because they accepted more credits
and I heard more things about Rutgers.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 4, 2007)
I only applied to Rutgers, and I got accepted so I didnt have to apply
anywhere else.. But I also didnt have a billion schools to think
about.. it was one or the other for me. I dont like to travel so i
didnt want a school where i would have to live on campus.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 4, 2007) Ok.. im going to go now.. see ya in class. :)
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 4, 2007) bye
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 6, 2007) Hello All!
- Chase Komer
(Sep 6, 2007) Hey
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) hello.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) Are we suppose to talk about the same subject as
last class?
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 6, 2007) hello....im not sure i was wondering that myself
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) haha.. okay.
- Ashli Williams
(Sep 6, 2007) hello
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) Hi.
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 6, 2007) hey
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) Did anyone chose Rutgers Camden because Rutgers
accepted more credits then any other college.. ????
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 6, 2007) i only applied to rutgers...but i've heard they
arent too good with accepting and transferring credits
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 6, 2007)
I think that we are going to be discussing some of the reasons that we
feel students may be leaving at random times in there college
career...? because I believe that is our focus for the semester..
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) Oh, that was going to be my topic, but it seems
like there arent many people who come for that reason.. haha.
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 6, 2007) :) yeah
- Ted Goertzel
(Sep 6, 2007) Hi there early birds. Any questions for me?
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) haha.. hello.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) Um, What is the topic of todays discussion?
- Ashli Williams
(Sep 6, 2007)
no my first semester i went to school in Baltimore MD but i didnt like
the area in which my school was located so i came back home and applied
to rutgers plus i got my financial aid
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 6, 2007) i was wondering if anyone has ever though about
leaving and their reasons, but never actually left...i know i did that
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) Man, I love my computer at home.. it is soooo much
faster. lol
- Chase Komer
(Sep 6, 2007) haha i kno
- Ted Goertzel
(Sep 6, 2007)
Today's discussion is about why people come to Rutgers Camden, what
they like and don't like about it, and why they leave. And about the
other schools they consider and what they think about them. I did not
want to structure it too much because I want you to be creative and
come up with your own ideas.
- Ashli Williams
(Sep 6, 2007) Does any one commute?
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 6, 2007) are we allowed to use our own examples in our
paper
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 6, 2007) I commute from voorhees
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007)
Danielle, OF course.. hahah.. I thought about it plenty of times..
college takes up so much time and energy. College is a lot of work.
College will help you in the long run, but putting in 4 or more years
and ( postponing your life) is soo hard to do.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) I commute from Deptford.. Near the Deptford Mall.
- Chase Komer
(Sep 6, 2007) I like Rutgers-Camden simply because it is
convenient. I am a commuter and it is really close to home and work.
- James Olivo
(Sep 6, 2007) i commute from marlton
- Chase Komer
(Sep 6, 2007) I commute from Williamstown
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 6, 2007) i commute from lindenwold
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) Did any of you think of Rowan.. Since it is only
about 20-30 mins away from Rutgers.....
- Kristy Loringer
(Sep 6, 2007) I commute from Delran
- Ted Goertzel
(Sep 6, 2007)
In this discussion, feel free to pick up on things others say. For
example, Stefanie called college "postponing your life" How do you feel
about that? Is college postponing real life or is it the highlight of
your life? What would make it seem less like postponing your life?
- James Olivo
(Sep 6, 2007) i applied to rowan but did not get in
- Ashli Williams
(Sep 6, 2007) How is the dorm life here?
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) James, What was your major for applying to Rowan.
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 6, 2007)
I like that I don't have to pay any tolls to get to school, where as if
I went to school in Philly I would. I would also get stuck in massive
traffic everyday
- James Olivo
(Sep 6, 2007) i was thinking about the art program because i had
a friend going there for art.
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 6, 2007) I only applied to Rutgers
- James Olivo
(Sep 6, 2007) Amber, why did you only apply to Rutgers? Did you
feel that you had a definite chance of getting in
- Rachel Negro
(Sep 6, 2007)
When I applied to college, I didn't even think of Rutgers- but I
transferred because they made it easy for you to- also- they had
Criminal Justice
- Chase Komer
(Sep 6, 2007) Is there a lot of stuff to do around campus for
those of you who live in the dorms?
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) JAMES...Oh, thats interesting.. How come you got
accepted into Rutgers but not Rowan, Because of the space or grades?
- James Olivo
(Sep 6, 2007) Stefanie...I really don't know to be honest. I was
surprised to be turned down by Rowan and not Rutgers.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) I am a transfer, and I only applied to Rutgers.. I
had a good idea I was going to get accepted.
- Kristy Loringer
(Sep 6, 2007)
I am Having a hard time with the computer it keeps taking the sixth out
and only showing me the caht on teh 4th is anyone else experiencing
this same problem
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) hi! I feel like I'm late and it's 1:30
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) James, Yeah that is fascinating to me too.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) James, Yeah that is fascinating to me too.
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 6, 2007)
stefanie....i kinda feel the same way and also to elaborate i thought
about leaving because of the general requirements...i feel that some of
them just arent neccesary
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 6, 2007)
James, I am a transfer student from community college. With my grades
and my extra curricular activities I had no worries about being
admitted into Rutgers and I didn't want to go anywhere else.
- Ashli Williams
(Sep 6, 2007) what are some of the majors people chose and why?
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) criminal justice
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 6, 2007) Business, it is one of there larger know programs
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) I was a Communication major in NB in the SCILS
dept
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 6, 2007) known*
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) and when i transferred to Camden they didn't offer
Comm as a major!
- Chase Komer
(Sep 6, 2007) Criminal Justice
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007)
Sociology But I'm actually going to become an Elementary Teacher.. but
that isnt a major here.. that was the only thing that bugged me about
Rutgers.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) But it a way , its a good thing.
- Kelly Ward
(Sep 6, 2007)
i used to be a business major but when i transferred to rutgers i
switched to criminal justice because it interested me more
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 6, 2007)
Ashli...i chose criminal justice because i always wanted to be a cop,
but then i really got into the X-files and then CSI and wanted to do
something like that with FBI or something....now after takin the
courses i'm thinking about DEA also
- Rachel Negro
(Sep 6, 2007) Criminal Justice/Sociology
- James Olivo
(Sep 6, 2007)
I chose sociology because I had no major my first 2 semesters and found
that I enjoyed my sociology classes the most from what they offered. I
very happy with that choice
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007)
Yeah, I'm still leaving with my Parents, so i guess I feel like college
i postpoing my life because I want a job, and my own house.. and I want
to get married and start a family.. and I feel like college is taking
too long.. hahah for all of this to happen. lol
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) For CJ majors...do you feel that RU has prepared
you for going out to the working field?
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 6, 2007) I am a business marketing major and then I want to
get my masters in management
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) bc the most common question I get is "do you want
to be a cop"
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) and there is a lot more to it than taht
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) tht
- Kristy Loringer
(Sep 6, 2007)
Ashli I chose criminal Justice and Sociology as my majors because I
wanted to want to do Clinical Counseling with criminals in Jail which a
crimianl justice backround is highly recommended
- Kirk Groomes
(Sep 6, 2007) Ashli Williams --->i commutte from Trenton
- Rachel Negro
(Sep 6, 2007)
I always get that! I wanted to be a cop when I first transfered but now
Im applying to graduate school for my MSW--I tihnk everyone in the CJ
dept. bends over backward to help me get the info I need for a career
- Scott Anderson
(Sep 6, 2007)
Didn't realize 1:30 was late...Did anyone in here plan or actually goto
school outside of this state? What's the difference between there and
Rutgers.
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 6, 2007)
Tammy....i think it has...i thought i knew a pretty decent amount of
information, enough to get me into something, but i've learned sooo
much my parents actually ask me questions about certain things or have
someone ask me if they have questions
- James Olivo
(Sep 6, 2007)
Prof Goertzel, how exactly do we use the information from this chat for
the class? Does everything we say get stored somewhere?
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) Do any of us know they would be accepted at
Harvard or Princeston or any of those High End Colleges if they
applied????
- Ashli Williams
(Sep 6, 2007) for those who commute why do you commute instead
of living on campus?
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) Danielle---I get the same thing
- Rachel Negro
(Sep 6, 2007) Scott: I went to school in DC and the only school
in NJ i applied to was Stockton.
- Ted Goertzel
(Sep 6, 2007)
Stefanie, "leaving with my parents" is an interesting Freudian slip -
or Freudian typo. I assume you meant "living with". Some people get
married and start a family while still in college, of course.
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) Ashli-I commute from Hammonton
- Chase Komer
(Sep 6, 2007) Ashli..i commute because i just cant see living in
camden. Also it is only 20 mins away so why pay all the extra money
- Kristy Loringer
(Sep 6, 2007) Does anyone here participate in any college
sponsored activities??
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) I take the speedline so it's really easy
- Kelly Ward
(Sep 6, 2007) Ashli- I commute because it's only a 15 min drive
to campus
- James Olivo
(Sep 6, 2007)
Ashli...I wouldn't want to live in Camden for the fact that I would be
so far from all of my friends, living in a dangerous city, and have a
very small amount of the school living with me
- Rachel Negro
(Sep 6, 2007) Kristy: I'm on the Crew team here
- Ashli Williams
(Sep 6, 2007) does anyone feel as though rutgers has alot to
offer as far as your major and as a college in general?
- Kirk Groomes
(Sep 6, 2007)
hey Stefanie Pottle--->I don't think college is postponing your life
especially if you persuing something you are really passionate
about...in that case, it could be the beginning of of your life.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) Oh, Sorry Prof. Goertzel.. Yes that is what i
meant.
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 6, 2007)
I am actually sitting next to a student who is complaining that she
hates Rutgers because they double booked her class and they had to drop
her from it and then put her in a new class 2 times.
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) that's called the RU screw
- James Olivo
(Sep 6, 2007) Amber...that does suck but I'm sure every college
has done that to students
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007)
Kirk, Yes you are right... I think that is why im still in college.. i
know its good for me.. and I know it will help me in life...
- Chase Komer
(Sep 6, 2007) Is anyone thinking about switching to a different
university..and if so why?
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 6, 2007)
Ashli...i think it does have a lot to offer....when i was a junior in
high school one of my teachers put into the BizEd class here for a
summer and it really taught me a lot and that's what actually made me
want to apply to rutgers...then add everything i've learned i think im
pretty set
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) but no college is perfect and everyone has hang
ups throughout the 4 or 5 years
- Amber Lawrence
(Sep 6, 2007) Could severe clerical errors and less classes
being offered have some thing to do with our 10% loss in student?
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) I dont live on campus, because I was never
interested in the Dorm life... Plus i wanted to live with my fiance
haha
- Scott Anderson
(Sep 6, 2007)
Ashli, as far as my major, I think Rutgers plays an important role.
Criminal Justice is a pretty competitive field, and New Jersey is
becoming one of the most competitive states. If I chose to work outside
of this state, hopefully a degree from Rutgers looks pretty good.
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) Hahaha.. I keep missing things.. because I cant
read as fast as people are typing.. hahahah
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) Scott.....that's what I hear. RU has a pretty darn
good rep outside of our state
- James Olivo
(Sep 6, 2007) Why would anyone consider leaving Rutgers?
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) James-I wouldn't because I'm graduating in Dec!
- Edna Daniels
(Sep 6, 2007) Edna Daniels I chose Rutgers because its close to
home and I have a full time job.
- Maria Tere Barrett
(Sep 6, 2007) I'm with you Stephanie.
- James Olivo
(Sep 6, 2007) I personally would leave Rutgers just to get a
taste of the dorm live that all my friends have
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) Besides that, I was never interested in worry
about transferring and worrying about credits and all that mess
- Stefanie Pottle
(Sep 6, 2007) hmm.. On campus and in the parking lot it feels
like a 50% gain in students.. hahah it is CROWDED
- Danielle Turner
(Sep 6, 2007) james..i did because of the general
requirements...i didnt and still dont understand some of the courses
you have to take
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) James dorm life isn't all it's cracked up to be
- James Olivo
(Sep 6, 2007) dorm life*
- Rachel Negro
(Sep 6, 2007) James: That is what I miss most from my old school
though Rutgers has more credibility and better faculty
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) i lived in dorms then a sorority house then in a
house with friends in NB
- James Olivo
(Sep 6, 2007) Well I just don't want to live at home at all. So
it has to be better than this.
- Tammy Jones
(Sep 6, 2007) it's gets real old real quick
- Danielle Turner
