Week Nine:  The Logic of Sampling

There will be no class on Friday, March 28.  Prof. Goertzel will be out of town at a conference

Quiz Nine is due in SAKAI on Monday, March 31.  You may try this quiz three times and the highest score will count.  You can find your score at the "grades on quizzes" link.  It will not give individual item scores.
Quiz Ten, the Sampling Statistics Quiz, is due in SAKAI at 5 p.m. on Monday, April 7.  It includes some statistical calculations and some multiple choice items from Babbie,  Chapter Seven.  You may take this quiz as often as you like and the highest score will count.  If you wait until the last day to try this quiz, it is at your own risk for any computer problems.

Reading Assignments:
  1. Babbie, Chapter 7, pages 198 to 212 and 223 to 230 (including "types of sampling designs" but not "multistage cluster sampling" or "probability theory").
  2. Two powerpoints are in Sakai/Resources/Week Nine:  Introduction to Sampling and Sampling Statistics:  A Conceptual Introduction.
We will begin talking about sampling statistics on Wednesday of this week, but they will be covered on next week's quiz.  Next week's quiz is available now and may be taken as many times as you like.  The software will tell you which items are wrong.  Formulas and other information are on next week's WEB page.
