Wikipedia article on Netroots.  and e-Democracy
Howard Dean campaign.    Deaniac shirtDeaniacs for Edwards
Jonathan Chait, The Left's New Machine
Ilan Greenberg, Changing the Rules of the Game  -  the Genocide Olympics?

Video:  Dean's Scream  -  Deaniacs vs. Obamamania -

The "Experimental Macrosociology"  reading will expose you to a professional research report.  Some of the math is a little difficult for us, but we can get the meaning nontheless.  There are several distinct versions:
  1. A formal research report.  This uses a different reference format than the APA one we are using, one more often used in the physical sciences.  This is rather condensed from a high prestige scientific journal that has limited space.   It is in the file ExperimentInternetInequality.pdf   -  This is from Science magazine.
  2. A journalistic summary designed to communicate the key findings to the general reader.  You should begin with this one and read it carefully.  It is in the file ExperimentalMacrosociology.pdf - This is from Science magazine
  3. Supplemental Internet materials supplied by the authors.  This was listed on the Science Magazine website.  It is longer than the original research article, but also more readable with fuller explanation of the methodology.  It is in the file ExperimentInternetSupporting.pdf.
  4. A Powerpoint summary which I prepared, ExperimentalMacroSociology.ppt
  5. The original powerpoint slides provided on the Science Magazine Site,  ExperimentInternetSlides.ppt.  These slides are all incorporated in #4.  They were supplied to help teachers present the material to classes.
Writing Assignment.  A five paragraph review of the five references included in your Research Proposal (or new references if you find others that are more useful).  You should mention the data and methods used by the authors as well as their arguments.  References to the authors should be embedded in the text following APA format, e.g.,  "Jones (2005) used data from the General Social Survey to...".   Due 5 a.m. April 9.
Quiz Ten will cover both "The Left's New Machine" and "Experimental Macrosociology:  Predicting the Next Best Seller."  There will be some items from the other readings on this study, especially the points covered in the powerpoint.  Closes at a 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8.  Two tries, but the answers will not be released until after the test closes.

Netroots Presentations

Capital Punishment,  Jessica, Mike, Ryan.  Several spelling errors:  Twenth Century AD,  obolish, oppentents, beliefes

Danielle, World Wildlife Federation -  no links.

Meetup - Fatumata and Nazish.  I don't like the birdhouse effect much.  growing steadily, not incessantly

Natural Medicine - no authors' names.  "very debated political topic" is an unneded intensifier  -  this presentation argues a position, but it does not refer to any of the advocacy organization or offer any links.

PETA is the most prominent AR organization, but they are hypocrites and
shrill reactionary assholes who give their own movement a bad name.
