Selling on the Internet

with Shades_of_the_Past

A Service for our Local Friends

Selling on the Internet is easy with the help Shades of the Past can offer. The fee for this service is small, and we charge the usual commission rate (30%) or less when your item sells. If you feel you have valuables others would want, and you don’t want to wait for them to sell in a consignment shop, this is the way to go!  We are registered eBay Trading Assistants in Stony Point, NY.*

Our $5 listing fee covers our time and effort, and you get most of it back as a credit if your item sells.  We use both a scanner and a digital camera, so your items will be illustrated as well as described.  Our reputation as a seller is excellent, and you are assured of good representation by us. The only better way to sell on the ‘net is to do it yourself!

 The Service We Provide

We will:

  • write a description of your item(s) for posting
  • take pictures as appropriate and add them to the listing
  • post your item on eBay under the Shades of the Past name
  • your listing will also appear in our eBay store, Shades and More
  • handle email questions, invoices, collection of payment
  • ship your item upon receiving payment from the buyer
  • provide you with a detailed written account of the sale

 The Cost to You

You pay us a listing fee of $5 per item, plus eBay's "insertion fee". This is non-refundable if the item does not sell.  If the item does sell, the $5 is applied to the auction sales fee, and the remainder goes toward our commission. (The minimum commission is $10).

Auction fees

eBay charges an Insertion Fee and a Sales Fee for items you offer and sell.  These may total around 5-6% of the sale.  They may also charge for extra services, such as reserve pricing, or more than one picture.  Please see the eBay Fee Schedule page for the current rates.

Consignment fee

Our commission rate per item sold, based on the net value after auction fees, is:

minimum fee $10 (including the listing fee)

30% of the first $100

20% of the balance up to $1000

12% of the amount over $1000

To determine the marketability of your items, log into eBay, enter search words, and check the box for COMPLETED ITEMS ONLY.  This will give you the closing prices of recent items that match your search words.

 Here's how to get started:

Email us for an appointment.   We will discuss the appropriateness of your item(s) for auction and help you decide on a starting price.   We do the rest!

The appropriateness of your item for auction sale will depend on condition, and size and weight for shipping.  We reserve the right to reject any item that is in less than "good" condition, or difficult to ship.  We must have the item(s) in hand from the time the auction starts.  We usually list on the weekend, for 7 days, and you should allow about a week more for payment to arrive.  Once the item is listed, you are committed to the sale.
