Schola - A Computer Chess
Engine
If you don't know why you are
here, you are probably in the wrong place! Schola is a chess engine for
Windows and will run in Winboard compatible interfaces such as Arena and Winboard.
Schola is freeware. You may re-distribute it and play around with the
code so long as you identify where it came from and don't sell it. Why
anyone would buy it is a debatable question!
If you want to contact me, please send an email to plattyaj@hotmail.com or you
might find me on the Computer
Chess Club Forums.

above packages)
To use Schola just unpack into the directory of your choice and load up
with your favorite chess GUI!
Version 1.1.0 adds late move reductions, fixes a bug that caused it to
reject a legal move, improves move ordering, has some time control
improvements and a bunch of minor tweaks. The one thing that is still as
lousy as ever is it's evaluation which needs a re-write.
Version 1.0.4 improves handling of time when pondering and fixes the
problem (finally) with time losses at the time control. Arena is more
permissive than WinBoard - a fact I didn't realize!
Version 1.0.3 fixes some time control bugs. Hopefully these should stop
frequent losses on time at 40 or 80 moves though I never was able to
reproduce the losses with my own testing.
(The initial upload of 1.0.3 didn't change the internal version number.
This has been corrected as of 09/09/08.)
Version 1.0.2 fixes several ponder bugs, adds the new logo from Swami
and includes some code from Dann Corbit for draw by insufficient
material.
Opening Book
I haven't included the opening books recommended for use with Schola.
Without them it's opening play is questionable.
Schola uses the Rebel / Pro Deo books provided by the legendary chess
partnership of Ed Schröder and Jeroen Noomen. If you want to use
them you can download the two files here and unpack them in the same
directory as schola.exe.

Thanks
- Dann Corbit made some compilation tweaks and provided
insufficient material draw code (mostly superceded as of 1.1.0).
- Swami provided the logos
