MOVEMENT TYPE Brass, spring driven, T&S, hour and half hour strike on cathedral gong, 8-day.
CASE SIZE & CONSTRUCTION Base = 13 ½", Height = 10", Depth = 4 ¾"

Cast iron case with black enamel finish. Gilt trim and feet.
LABEL INFORMATION None, original paper label missing
DIAL INFORMATION

4 ½" gold colored, raised black Arabic numerals.
MISC. FEATURES N/A
ACQUIRED FROM Public auction in Stricklerstown, PA.
CONDITION WHEN ACQUIRED Not running, case and gilt trim in poor condition, bezel door and glass missing.
RESTORATION August 1991 -  Movement cleaned and oiled, bezel door and glass replaced by Mr. Kury, Lebanon, PA.

March 1992 -  New black enamel finish applied to case by Mr. D. Stainbrook, Annville, PA.   The replacement bezel is not the correct type for this clock. Clock originally had a French bezel ring.

HISTORICAL DATA

The Ansonia Clock Factory in Ansonia, Conn. as it appeared in 1850 (this factory was destroyed by fire in 1854)

The Ansonia Clock Company factory in Brooklyn, New York c. 1881

The Ansonia Clock Co. was founded by Anson G. Phelps as a subsidiary of the Ansonia Brass Co. in Ansonia, Conn. (town named after him). In operation from 1851-1878 in Ansonia, Conn. (Ansonia Clock Company became a separate entity from Ansonia Brass Co. in 1859). After a series of fires, he moved the company to NYC and operated from 1879-1930. Company disbanded in 1930, all machinery was sold to Russia.

This clock sold for $7.90 in the 1887 Sears, Roebuck & Co. catalog.
