The Terry Clock Company factory as it stood in 1883 in Pittsfield, Mass.
The Terry Clock Company was founded in 1867 by Silas B. Terry in Waterbury, Conn. Silas was the fourth son of Eli Terry (the famous clockmaker from Plymouth, Conn.) Silas was born in 1807, and died in 1876, his clock making career spanning some 50 years. The company was moved to Pittsfield, Mass. in 1880, after Hezekiah S. Russell, his brother, Solomon, and businessman Edward Jones purchased a large interest in the failing company. Two of Silas's sons made the move to Pittsfield, serving in key management positions, however, Edward Jones was named president of the Terry Clock Co.. In 1888, the Terry brothers relinquished control of the company to Russell and Jones, and the company was re-organized as the Russell & Jones Clock Co. This was then end of the Terry era in clock making. The firm Russell & Jones's catalog carried the same clocks, even the same clock model names as when company was
operated as the Terry Clock Co..
The "Climax" model shelf clock was sold new in 1889 by Russel and Jones for $5.50.REFERENCES 1. "Clock Identification and Price Guide - Book 2" by Roy Erhardt., page 85 (Russel Jones catalog).
