MOVEMENT TYPE Brass, 30-hour, Time only, pin lever escapement.

CASE SIZE & CONSTRUCTION Base = 3 ¾", Height = 6 ½", Depth = 2"

LABEL INFORMATION No label - original.

DIAL INFORMATION

Ivory dial with sunken gilt center, 1 ¼" chapter ring, beveled dial glass.

MISC. FEATURES Small cherub and squirrel on base, flower garnish on top of dial.

ACQUIRED FROM Estate auction at "Jessie's Auction House" in Waldo, Ohio. Estate was that of the late Ms. Hart of Marion, Ohio. She was a school teacher in Marion, and died at the age of 90 years.

CONDITION WHEN ACQUIRED Not running, movement very dirty, case in excellent condition.

RESTORATION April 1993 - Cleaned movement and case, pallets and lever pivots worn, clock runs accordingly.

HISTORICAL DATA

Clock sold new in 1904 Waterbury catalog for $4.75.

The Waterbury Clock Company was formed as a joint stock corporation by Benedict & Burnham in 1857. One of the only clock companies which was not formed from smaller independent maker's shops. Company was in business from 1857-1944. There were many noted clockmakers who were employed by Waterbury, including Nobel Jerome (brother of Chauncey Jerome), and Silas B. Terry (fourth son of Eli Terry Sr.). The company began making watches for Robert H. Ingersol in 1892, and subsequently purchased his business in 1922. When company failed in 1944, it became part of the U.S. Time Corp.
