Invoice from "The Ingersoll-Waterbury Co." 1933
Index: 001-M-1298
This is an invoice for $126.76 for 2 cartons of clocks and 1 carton of watches from The Ingersoll-Waterbury Co. to J.H. Steell & Co. of Dagus Mines, Pennsylvania. J.H Steell & Co. was the general store in Dagus Mines, it was known as "Gatto's General Store" when I lived there as a child (1963-1969). The store was closed some years ago, and the building now houses a pizza parlor. Gatto's sold all of the normal items you would expect to find in an old general store (food, hardware, etc.). The invoice was given to me as a gift from my parents for Christmas 1998, they found it at an antique store near St. Marys, PA. The Ingersoll watch company was purchased by the Waterbury Clock Company in 1922.
The invoice measures 8 1/2" x 7", and is in good condition.03/25/1933 "Westclox Display Shelf"
Index: 002-M-0299
This is an old display shelf for Westclox timepieces. This item also came out of "Gatto's General Store" (see history from invoice above). This shelf was given to me as a birthday gift from my parents in February 1999. They found it in the same antique store near St. Marys, PA. that they found the invoice. Apparently this antique store bought these items at auction after Gatto's closed.
The shelf measures 3"H x 22"W x 6"D, and is in fair condition.1930-1955 "1905 Post Card from New Haven, Conn."
Index: 003-M-0699
This is an old used post card from New Haven, Connecticut. Photograph of Chapel St. looking west. Copyrighted in 1905 by Rotograph Co., NY. The card is postmarked from Mapleton, Oregon on October 6, 1908. Has a 1 cent stamp affixed to it.
Although this item is not horological in nature, it does depict early New Haven, Conn. The New Haven Clock Co. would have been prominently in business during this time frame.1905-1908 "1930 Sales Flyer for the Seth Thomas Clock Co."
Index: 004-M-0699
This item is a sales flyer for the Seth Thomas Clock Co. It describes Seth Thomas Clocks available in 1930. On the back of the flyer, there are illustrations and descriptions of eleven different model shelf and wall clocks. The heading on the back is "1813 ~ SETH THOMAS CLOCKS ~ 1930". The flyer is stamped with the following jeweler's information: "M.D.HOHENSTINE / Jeweler / 37 So. High Street / Columbus, Ohio"
I no longer have this piece in my collection, a descendant of M.D. Hohenstine contacted me and after a few emails, I decided that this flyer should be in her hands, not mine.1929-1930 "1862 Mitchell Map of Connecticut, R.I., and Massachusetts"
Index: 005-M-0699
This item is a County map of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
Although not specifically horological in nature, this map shows many of the early communities in Connecticut and Massachusetts, where the Clockmaking trade was carried out. Included in the Connecticut map are the towns of Bristol, Waterbury, Terryville, Torrington, New Haven, Forestville, and Salem Bridge.
The map measures 12" x 16" (the borders were cut off due to size limitation of scanner), and is inscribed "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1862 by S. Augustus Mitchell Jr. in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the U.S. for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania"1862-1863 Old Reverse Painted Mirror
Index: 006-M-0699
This is an old column framed mirror with a reverse glass painting of what appears to be an old mission. It measures 9" x 20". The columns are stenciled with bronzing powders. 1850-1880 5 Printer's Blocks with Horological Items
Index: 007-M-0799
These items are old printer's blocks, three with alarm clocks, and two with pocket watches. The top two, and the middle left blocks are stamped "The E. Ingraham Company, Bristol, Conn." The other two blocks do not have maker names on them. All five of the blocks are copper on lead, over wood blocks. 1920-1930 Oak Jeweler's Display Case
Index: 008-M-0899
This is a nice old red oak display case. It was originally in a jeweler's shop and used for displaying watches and small clocks. It is in very good condition, and is 71" long, 13" high, and 13"deep.
