"1840-1843 Brewster & Ives Clock Label Printed on Sheet of Tin"

Index: 012-M-0999

Brewster & Ives clock label printed on old piece of tin. Piece is 10 1/2" x 15 1/2" and material has a very high lead content. The image is ink, and appears to be a test printing of the original engraving by Elihu Geer
. Geer made labels for many of the early Connecticut clockmakers/firms. The label has the following information on it:

"Improved / Brass Clocks / Made and Sold by / Brewster & Ives / Bristol, Conn. / Warranted Good"

"Press of Elihu Geer, Hartford, Conn."

All of the labels I have seen that were printed by Geer state:

"Elihu Geer
, Printer, Hartford, Conn." instead of the one printed on this piece of tin. I believe it was used to test the original engraving.

Brewster (E.C.) & Ives (Shaylor) were in business from 1840 to 1843.

I created a frame for this item, in the shape of a column and splat clock for display.
