The following is a list of Patents registered in the United States, and can be used to approximate the date of manufacture of any item with a patent number on it.  It is just a guide, keep in mind that because a clock movement may have a patent date listed, the actual manufacture may have been years later.  The list starts with patent number 1 issued in 1836.  Patents were issued earlier than this, but for an unknown reason, they were not officially recorded on this list.
