The Civilized Dog

The basisc course is for dogs age twelve weeks and up. Here we teach the basics - sit, down and stand-stay, come when called and healing on leash.

After the Basic Class, we offer Novice I, Novice II, and Open A classes for those who wish to advance in dog obedience and compete.

In addition to agility, lessons are offered in utility. Scent articles, directed jumping, signal work, and stand are all mastered.

This training school is considered by many breeders, veterinarians and dog owners to be one of the best in the Washington, D.C. area. It is owned and run by Carol andFrank Knock and their daughter Lisa.

The Knocks have spent their lifetimes traveling the United States and Canada to seminars, clinics, competition events and kennels.

The Knocks have an in-depth knowledge of canine behavior, growth and development. Carol specializes in the causes and solutions of canine-human problems.

They have evolved a program that considers the individual dog and owner and their particular needs and personalities. Consequently, they tailor the training for each individual dog. General obedience for the pet/companion and solving behavior problems for the home and show ring are Carol's specialties. Also, she teaches Ralley Obedience.

Frank's specialty is working with small groups of students, refining their handling techniques so they will succeed with their dog in the training process at all levels.

Lisa specializes in conformation training and handling classes for the breed ring. She also teaches agility classes. She has had show dogs shipped to her from around the United States to train and show.

The Knocks priority in any training is a happy dog and owner, both of whom enjoy the training process. The training techniques used by the Knocks ensure a happy, very positive bond between the owner and dog.

The CivilizedDog training classes have turned out multiple first places and high in trials in the obedience ring.

Championships, multiple group placements, group ones and Best in Show dogs in the breed ring have been trained by the Knocks to these achievements. Multiple agility titles are another success for the Knocks students.

While the Civilized Dog training school is small, it is highly professional and caters to the needs of dogs and people.
