ANA's Website Services DOMAIN NAME As of June, 2002, over 23 million domains have been registered. Meaning that you're more likely to win the lottery than find a memorable, short and catchy domain name that fits well with your website. Three ways to obtain a domain name: a.) Invent your own unique nameTopics relating to the sale of domain names are often in the news these days, whether it's another tale of instant riches as in the sale of the "business.com" which sold for $7.5 million in late 1999, or breathless stories of cybersquatters and trademark disputes. We do not recommend to buy a domain name from a registered owner! SEARCH ENGINE SUBMISSION This is the most important part of the entire process! You can have the best looking, most expensive and most elaborate website in this world, but if no one knows about you, your website is worthless! A search engine submission is a marketing process that provides a high ranking of your site within the search listing. For an example: You are searching for something on the internet and the search engine gives you the result: 1-10 of about 594,000. I feel sorry for that 594,000th website listing, because I doubt it very much that you will ever visit them! Hint: Next time that you search for something, out of curiosity, go to that last page and click-on the few listings on the bottom. You may actually find some interesting websites or email transmittals! The name of the "game" is to be within the "TOP 10 LISTING"! Obviously, if your website is created for pleasure, or if it is for local information only, then search engine listing may not be important. A "home" website tells your friends about your family and shows them pictures from your last vacation. A "business" website can be either: a)money making machine, b)informative site where your clients can review your business at their leisure, or c)a pertnership of a manufacturer's product. Of course, there are probabilities and statistics that the search program will churn-out one particular website over the other, but also the biggest part is the submission process itself, which is mostly overlooked! WEBSITE DESIGN Webpages can be simple or complicated, depending on their purpose. The more complex the design, the larger its size, the bigger its space and the slower the viewing. Average internet user prefers speed when searching for information, looks for uniqueness when selecting to purchase and requires contact availability. So, the first page of your site, the Home Page, must captivate the reader to look at your entire site. Tools of good website design: 1. Create a high quality logo on your web site. If you don't consider yourself a good graphic designer, hire a professional.WEBSITE HOSTING Hosting your website is like having your telephone number listed in the phone book. The website files are put on the server that's owned by a hosting company. There are hundreds of hosting companies providing different services at different prices. The best hosting companies use their own "secure" server, administrate 100% of their servers, provide traffic stats and web based email administration. We recommend to stay away from "broker" hosting companies that actually "resell" services to server-owned companies. Brokers have no support or they're very hard to reach when you have a problem. RE-DESIGN, UPGRADES and TUNE-UPS If you've been online for any amount of time, then I'm sure you've heard many of the success stories about internet entrepreneurs, and how they're making millions every year. Also, you've probably heard how easy it is to do it. The truth is, it actually is kind of easy, but not as easy as most salesmen would have you believe. There is a little bit of work involved, and anyone who's really been successful has put in the time and effort to get there.
