Hedy, like her namesake, loves attention. If you don't tell her
so, she will come asking you to tell her you love her. Perhaps
that
is why she was so quick to earn her AKC CGC certificate. She
loves
everyone and yet is just confident enough to remain calm when all hell
breaks loose.
Bonnie (Cayuga’s Ipswich Bonnie 11/12/92 –
4/19/02) the Foundation Bitch for Driftwood Kennel would have been
proud of her daughter Hedy (ARBA CH Driftwood’s Headwind
Hedy). As the Hurricane Isabel coursed its way north up the
east coast, Hedy whelped her pups in a marathon 10 hour session, and
the longest we have ever had. At about 1 AM on Friday, Hedy began
labor and by 11 AM she had finally delivered her tenth pup.
Worried about the 1 and a half hour delay after pup number we
called our vet at 6:30 AM and planned to journey to the practice. Just
before
leaving at 7 AM she had pup number 7. We could not palpate any
more
pups but as she still looked big to us we figured we would go to the
vet
anyway. On the way to the vet she had her eight pup. After
an
examination and an x-ray it was determined that she still had two more
pups
to go but they were coming slowly so after an oxytocin shot number nine
came
about 9:30 and after lots of walking, another shot, and a road trip to
get
coffee and donuts that number ten was born in the Dunkin Donuts parking
lot
at 11 AM. It was a great relief knowing that this was the last
one.
Mom and pups are doing well.
